Osprey Publishing's 117th book in their Aircraft of the Aces series chronicles the USAAF 325th FG, the legendary "Checkertail Clan", so popular with model builders.

Great review, Fred. The Checkertails are one of my favorite groups. I read that they used to take new hotshot pilots in a P-51 and pit them against a veteran pilot in a P-40. The veteran would outfly them to the point of shame to give them a dose of reality, then build them back up to top form.

Hi Russ,

True! That was how Col. Baseler would "orient" new hot-shot Mustang pilots fresh from the States - a dose of good 'ol Curtiss wax on their tails!
