I recently acquired the Mauve P-40M at a local show this past weekend. Now reading a review online it seems as though this kit is pretty good. But it got me curious; how is this kit compared to more recent iterations of the P-40? I've built one other Warhawk before, the Revell P-40B. But I don't remember anything about it because I built it many years ago.

So I'd like to know, just out of curiosity, how the Mauve P-40M compares to newer kits.

(And yes, in case you're so inclined, I will be buying some update sets for this. I got my eyes set on a PE one that I saw on Amazon or a resin/PE one along with a a blast bulge(?), a seat, and a wheel set by OzMods. And a set of decals because I really don't want to use the kit's decals.)

Hmmmm... this kit is looking quite good, if you look at other
modelling sites on the WWW.
I belive Eduard sell a version on this kit some years ago.

I am doing a version on Hasegawas P-40 right now, right here.
It is a very good kit fot itself, but somewhat tricky to build
But build they look the part.

Hi Michael,
I believe the Italeri P-40 is the same kit.
I found it not to bad the gaps between some parts(particularly the wings around where they join the fuselage underneath)

Overall while it may not be up to Hasegawa standards its not bad and in the end it looks like a P-40.

I'd like to see how you get on.

Ok. I'll have to look into this kit more. The review I was looking at was written in 2011 so the statement "considered one of the best P-40s in 1/48 scale" 'might' be outdated by now.

Chris: I'll probably be starting this kit by mid-June or sometime during early- to mid-summer. I need the money to acquire the AM pieces I want to use with the kit. Might be the first time I'll be using resin and AM photoetch.

Hi Again Michael,
Which markings are you to go with.
I'd suggest maybe an RNZAF(I'm not biased)

If you do I may be able to help with research.

Cheers

Chris

It's ok. I understand the "non-bias." And although I've read that the M version wasn't used much with the USAAF, there were still some that made it into the AAF's inventory. I will be getting some decals for an AAF plane and decide from there. I'm not going for accuracy towards one specific craft or pilot but instead I want to try to make it look nice.
