Started the construction of the trumpeter F105G today, one thing bothers me is the poor details of the seat for the plane. The molded on seatbelt is a huge turn off especially in this scale, so I used some foil from a cigaratte pack (thanks to JT international), and some left over PE from my previous 32nd project, the Phantom to fashion something that is at least passable... I think this is a must for any modeler who is half serious about making a plane in that scale.

Pic of the original seat

New seat, the bending of wires left a lot to be desired, I might fashion a jig for more regular bending for the next set of seat

That really does make a big difference, most impressive. I don't know why kit manufacturers include molded on seatbelts if they are as poor as in this example. Dd you use superglue to stick the wire buckles to the foil?

Martin,

I bent the wire to a loop, so I can use the foil stripes to loop around the wire, then superglue it.

I myself don't understand the mold on seatbelt, consider the thing you see right to the seat on the tree that is full of rivets (very nicely rendered) are not even visible after you put the seat back cushion on. The maker can just throw in a set of etched seatbelts which will make modeler's life much easier (albeit less fun).

Armed with some reference pic of the actual seat of the F105, and using some wires, I had fashioned some very crude hoses, one are for communication jack, another is for oxygen, what's the third one for I have no idea. I am going wild on this seat

Eduard makes seat belts in color.
Don't know off hand if they make this one but I know they do.
Or try the Black box stuff.
This is what all the locals use!

Nice start so far.
So are giving up on Armor???? (:-)

BTW is not one the Piss tube???

The seat looks great with the improvements you made Dave. The hose you give referance too I think I taking a stab in the dark at this. Could be for the G-Suite, but it is just a guess. Maybe someone can chime in and tell us cause now you got me curious about it.

Hi War and Sgtreef,

I checked my reference again, I think the three hoses are for G-Suit, Vent-Suit, Oxygen, and Communication. I would think that the Oxygen and COmmunication must be in the same hose, but with seperate lead outs. And Vent Suit might be the polite term for pissing tube.

Dave aka Da Hong Kong Connection:

An excellent string of pictures here.

The conversion/detailing from the stock kit part, to what you have done with the belts and hoses is just an excellent example of what detailing can do for a model. This is good stuff Dave, ---thanks.

SS,
If you have a triangle shaped file, somewhere along the length would be a dimension that you could wrap wire around to make the buckles nicely triangulated.
As for the hoses,do you dare give them a thin paper covering? So that the round spring part will raise lumps under the covering. Its hard to explain, but imagine veins under the skin of your arm pushing up against the skin, causing long ridges....

Nice one Dave, love the seat so far, perhaps the coil of wire could be pushed together more to create the effect better without the large gaps.

Hope this helps mate.
Good on ya matey.
