I'm beginning the HK B-25H Gunship, and have questions about the color scheme, and available PE.

The instructions call for "Interior Green" and suggest Tamiya XF58, which is Olive Green. Is that an appropriate color? Seems too dark. Also seems too close to the exterior thay call for of Olive Drab.

The instructions call for color 14 which is BLANK. this is for the engine nacel (nose?). what should this be?

I ordered the Eduard "Big Ed" for the B-25, not realizing this is the the J. It looks like a lot can be used. does anyone know of a set for the H?

Is there a good reference for the H?

Thanks for any help or advice.

Interior Green is not in the Tamiya range so it must be the nearest match.

Model Master acrylic 4736
Model Master enamel 1715
Vallejo Model Air 71010
Life Color UA04
Agama A12M
Xtracolor X117
Humbrol 151
Pactra A35
Polly S 505096
GunzeSangyo Mr Color C27
GunzeSangyo Hobby Color H58

Colour 14, very much guessing here, might refer to a colour in one of the US specifications:-

US Army Specification 3-1
Specification 14057-A-C-Bulletin 48 May 192
Bulletin 41

The only color 14 I can find in US specifications is Pink. Perhaps it was more of a sand colour?

Alternatively 14 might refer to a colour in a particular range of paints.

Thanks for he interior info.

The color 14 is just the 14th color in the instruction, not a reference to standard. It goes on the node of the prop.

in general, the instructions for this kit are pretty lame.

If you mean the propeller tips then it is going to be Yellow and ANA 614 is Orange Yellow.

NO, the "hub" (nacel?) that holds the propellors

Dave,

Interior Green was originally Yellow Zinc Cromate mixed with black and a small quantity of aluminum pigment. Interior Green or Tinted Zinc Chromate isn't Yellow or Green Zinc Chromate.

Interior Green is ANA 611 which is very close to FS 24151. Tamiya FX-58 is to dark, but not by much. Add a few drops of FX-4 which is Tamiya's Yellow Zinc Chromate. I tried adding FX-5 with is a brighter Green, but the 1st mix is a much better match to the FS 24151 chip.

Don't drive yourself crazy as the color will really change once you cover it with a dirty wash, and then close up the fuselage.

For the kit aircraft, the engine cowls had the front sections painted Yellow.

The hub was done in 3 different ways. Bare metal, steel. A squadron or group color. Or painted black or OD. My best advise? Always check your references

Thanks, I know I'm confusing things not knowing the correct terminology. This bit, part R9

Dave,
R9 is the Crankcase. Usually it's painted a glossy Gray. I've seen pictures of many engine restorations, and the color varies all over the place. So be leary of where you get your references from. Here's two restorations with the slightly different grays.
