I recently bought 2 of the new Revell Spitfire Mk IIA. I will be finishing them both as the first Spitfire flown by Geoffrey Wellum, a Mk I, K9998 QJ-K (for King). This one I am building out of the box for the Mullion heritage centre (Mullion is where I and Mr Wellum live); the second one will be more detailed.

Good for you, you've just given me an idea for the markings for mine (old Revell/Hasegawa version). I hope you've read his book, absolutely brilliant , the best descriptive passages of flying I have seen.
PS how's the Typhoon going?

Mal,
Seems that you're off to a rather good start. Of course the OOB concept was already slightly modified with the addition of the seat armor plate, and the seat backing. Will you be cross posting this build to both sites?

Hi John,
If you want paint masks for the markings give me a shout Yes, of course I have read his book, a stunning read In fact he signs copies that are on sale at the post office here in Mullion
I hope to be posting an up date on the Tiffie very soon

Maybe I should have said OOB but with a few necessary modifications. I already have the detailed cockpit for the second one and I have scratch built the undercarriage pump lever and removed the selector which replaced it on later aircraft.
The Bulldog site doesn't get many posts so I aim to post there and link from here?

Mal,
You might want to post here and link there instead, since most of your posts and views will be via Aeroscale.
I must admit that I've never been to the British Bulldog's site. Just too many sub sites to visit on a regular basis.

As the Bulldogs is "my" site I think that I will post there
A link here will take you to it and achieve the aim of getting more members to take a look at the Bulldogs site and maybe join the club.
To join you simply need to be a member of the KitMaker network and a member of the IPMS

Mal,
I see. I stopped being a member of IPMS back in the 70s when I started my 30 year sabbatical from scale modeling. Since finding the hobby again, online forums and sites have been my total involvement within the hobby.

I joined the IPMS, when I first got back into the hobby but the 2 clubs that I joined weren't actually helping me improve. They were actually one and the same club but from two towns in close proximity, with just a couple of members that would only go to their towns meeting. They met in pubs and the talk was anything but scale modelling and therefor a waste of time! I actually joined and re-joined several times but nothing changed. Quite some time later I started my own club IPMS Doncaster and we met at RAF Finningly and the meetings were all about scale modelling but that ended when Finningly closed Some time ago I formed the IPMS Kitmaker on line club and at our first Scale Modelworld show we had an internet cafe' sponsored by Revell Being an on line club we only get to physically met at shows; the big show, Scale Modelworld, a massive 4 halls, each the size of a hanger is the highlight of the year. Several of us stay over for the full week end and I have a trade stand there The anoying thing is that the 2 clubs that I used to belong to each get space, so that club actually has 24' of tables rather than what every other club gets, 12' Yes it is still a sore point especially when the IPMS always say that they need more space because of those that they need to turn away. Anyway we have a great time so if you ever get to come over the pond make it in November and look in on us, I can make you an honourary member for the week end
I'll update this thread later, I have been doing some more fixes

Mal,
If I ever make it over to your side of the pond, you have a deal. And I'll treat for dinner.

If you make an OOB model, the only correct choice is AR 213 (G-AIST). You just Need to fill the bullet holes, replace the wheels and if you like Change to a four blade prop which AR 213 had in some sequences of ist Service career.
The inspection Windows on the cowling, the ailerons, the odd bulges on the wing top, the Mk. V oil cooler and the reinforcement tins on the wing top and bottom over the main spar can be maintained.

An update
It will be out of the box but I will make the alterations to make it a Mk1 myself, the second one that I will build I will use aftermarket items to make it more accurate. This first one needs to be built quite quickly, but there are some, obvious, things that I just can't live with!
