I don’t know if it’s like this for you guys or not, but I find that the more I model the more things I find an interest in that I didn’t care about before. For me, it started with two seaters, and then went to side-by-side two seaters, and then progressed into a newfound love of RAF jets. Then, it got worse, and I started to notice the kits of a lot of weird RAF interwar aircraft!

So, now I have a thing for some of the weird and wonderful flying machines put in service by the RAF in the 1930-39 time period, particularly bombers! Given this, I have of course gone out of my way to dig out kits of these planes from local hobby shops and shows, and I recently got a hold of one of the Revell/Matchbox (Revellobox?) Wellesleys!

The Wellesley, with its huge wings and odd bomb paniers immediately hooked my interest, so I had to crack open the box and see what was inside!

Take a look at my out of box review for this oldie here:

https://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/out-of-box-reviews/172-matchbox-vickers-wellesley-mk-i-oob/

Like all Matchboxes, it’s awesome looking, but also a bit primitive. Now, how can I make it weirder… that’s the question of the day!

Nice choice for an "Interwar ugly" aircraft Adam. That period of time saw some really strange looking aircraft flying around. This will be interesting build to follow.

Never seen one of these built, so this will be interesting to follow. Gotta love that interior derail, especially the gunner's bench seat.

I picked up a Heyford at the same time, and now I have some of those hideous French things (Amiot 143 and Potez 541) to keep it company! What the heck! is up with those things?

There were a lot of interesting, if not impractical, ideas in those times, for sure!

Yeah, I know what you mean, Brian, about the interior detail. It's not much better for the pilot. He has triangle seat and control yoke, oh, and a not-too detailed instrument panel.

Well I will be interested in seeing it built up. It's one of the RAF plug uglies of the 1930s, eclipsed only by the Handley Page Heyford in appearance.

I don't quite think it's that bad! It's not super pretty, but it is not as bad as even the Stirling, if you ask me. I would say that the Whitley was worse, too.

Darn, now I need a Whitley... FROG!! Where's my FROG dealer?? they made one, right? Oh, I need a Harrow too! Anyone make that?

I think I know what I'm doing with the Wellesley; I found a pic and a profile of the Hercules engine testbed. Super long nose = Awesomeness!
