Hello all,
I'm considering subscription to a scale modelling magazine. What I would like is emphasis on super detailed builds, with a lean towards aircraft but I don't want to discount armour modelling as i do now and again go back and build the odd AFV. Lots of hints and tips, and reviews please ... I'm an experienced UK based modeller - so what is the opinion - which would be the best one?
I'm aware of the irony of asking this question on a scale modelling forum!

You won't get anything from a mag that you can't get right here, with the added advantage of interaction!
I cancelled several subscriptions since I became a member here, no regrets at all.
Cheers, D

Roland,
There are several excellent modeling magazines, some are even available online. While I had subscriptions over the years to some, I have none now. As others have already mentioned there is basically nothing you'll find in any magazine that you won't find here, or on some of the other well known modeling sites.
Every printed article needs to fit a size format, and there is naturally a limit to the number and size of photographs per article. Neither is true with a specialized online forum. Actually, the opposite is often the case. What's more you can ask questions, offer comments, and suggest other ideas and techniques. You're able to have a give and take with the builder and whom ever posts in that thread. And for the most part, it's free.
As I said earlier, many magazines are now going to an online format, but still charge for their content at a reduced rate. If you still want to check out some of the better modeling magazines, you can google them online, or try some book stores like Barnes and Noble here in the States, which carries a large number of magazines, and actually lets you read them there like a mini library.

One of my local hobby shops has a magazine exchange shelf, where modelers can drop off magazines that they have finished with, and take others of interest, all free of charge.
Might be worth investigating, or even instigating, at your LHS ?!?

Finescale used to be the go-to but the last issue I picked up because it featured a kit I was building was horrible. How to apply decals and how to clean brushes or something ridiculous like that. Not the pinnacle it once was.
I've always loved TMMI - but I feel the articles are fewer and fewer and shorter and shorter. For the money I'd rather just browse the net and watch build logs on here.
Same for Scale Aircraft Modelling.
I buy individual issues now, I doubt I'll ever subscribe again, but perhaps if the price is right I would consider doing an electronic copy subscription.

I've picked up a few tips from Fine Scale Modeler. However, I can find petty much anything I want here and on YouTube. So I'm letting my subscription expire.

The only mag I buy is Airfix Model World, I like it's style and presentation, I browse others if I'm in the newsagent but never buy them, just don't like them.

Roland,
I haven't read through all the replies so forgive any redundancy.
I concur that there is a wealth of information here at Aeroscale, some members probably deserve the title of "experts" (Stephen Lawson [Jackflash] for WWI), and there are others who, if not literally experts, are certainly very well versed on specific subject matter. Some members even consult with model makers to improve authenticity and accuracy of their models.
If you like the feel of paper in your hands as I still do, UK has some great paper mags, as seen here:
http://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/news/17423
http://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/news/17422
What do you model - general aircraft; Japanese; modern; WWI, etc.? If Japanese, look for Koku-Fan or Arawasi.

Roland we have 2 maodel shop in Salisbury, they may not be the biggest or the best but they do have a fair selection of products.
Salisbury Model Centre on Fisherton St
Endless Models on Endless St
Declan at Salisbury Model Centre is a modeller himself and will bend over backwards to help wih any issues you have or products you are looking for.
Dave at Endless Models is heavily into Diecast models, but still has a reasonable range of models and consumables for the plastic addict.

I agree entirely, I occasionally buy special editions like Airfix Model World with the Typhoon supplement , but other than that I get all I need from the Internet.

Actually I think they're both pretty good, although Endless models is better for consumables in my opinion.
