Any one who's built a few 1/48 Hasegawa Hawker Typhoons know what the devil part Q-9 is there for? I've seen it listed on a number of instruction sheets for the Typhoon, but it never seems to be for use. Just curious.

That's the part above the main wheel halves on the right side sprue? (under the wheel halves on the left side sprue)

Edit: I have no idea what Q9 is. I'm no expert on the Typhoon, though. I searched 1999.co.jp and found three boxings of the Hasegawa Typhoon, and all of those mark Q9 as unused.

Sounds reasonable. My guess was going to be a car door version hinge for the door, but my meager references don't support that. Just wondering why they would make a part that doesn't get used on any version I've seen so far.

I found this on Facebook just now. Maybe I was right about the door hinge?

Not being able to see it very well but the shape suggest that it might be an external rudder hinge? If so it might have been used on the very early Typhoons/Tornado? Apart from that the only other idea that I have (And I haven't the time to search for the answer) is possibly an anti-foul fitting for a spin recovery parachute? I don't even know if they were used on any pre-production prototypes.

Above all though if its not to be used it ain't a worry?

I've built the car door and it doesn't get used.

The earliest Mk.Ia with 12-gun wing had external rudder actuators or trim balances (not entirely sure, it was a long time ago, anyway, that is what the parts are), I used them some years ago on my Mk.Ia conversion.

If you look inside the fuselage halves you will find the flashed-over locating holes to drill out.

Thank you! The mystery is solved. One of those versions Hasegawa never got around to kitting I guess.

The part is greyed out in the sprue layout in the instructions. If you look at the bottom left of the sprue layout page, it mentions that the greyed out parts are not for use. This is quite common in Hasegawa instructions.
