Hi all, my first post on aeroscale, I usually build 1/35 armour but mixing it up and trying something different.
My question is, I've bought academy's 1/48 spitfire mk xivc and was wondering if the raaf used these at all and if so, what markings/decals would I use?
Cheers, Nick

Hi Nick,
I don't actually know the answer as I have only been interested in the Grey Nurse schemes that Carry the wonderful shark mouth and they were Mk VIIIs. I wouldn't be surprised though if some MkIX weren't issued but I couldn't, at the moment, tell you anything about any markings. I will try and find something.
Anyway welcome out of the dark side, if only for a short while

After a quick search I found that 451 Sqn RAAF operated Spitfire Mk IXs from December 1943-October 1944, in Egypt and France, codes (BQ to Oct 44). It was in Wikapedia though?

I was thinking though that you were talking about Sqns in Australia? If not then there were plenty, but again I'd need to search to find details

I re-searchd using 451 Sqn and found this:
https://www.redroomodels.com/132-scale/132-scale-451-sqn-raaf-spitfires-1943-45/
1/32 scale but it shows some options, I'm sure that there will be similar in 1/48 scale

There was a good article in a recent (last 3 months? maybe) Aeroplane Monthly that covered a lot of ground through Spitfire MKs including where they ended up. Might be worth hunting down. Sorry cannot give the month as I'm away from home and the stack for another 2 months.

If you go to the link below you will find a number of Spitfire MkXIV's in RAF/RAAF markings. I have done several using the Red Roo Decals and they look good on the stock Academy kit.
