I've been wondering what to do about the fact that we are now commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of the Second World War. It seems to me that these shouldn't be ignored here. So, herewith my proposal:

Two special campaigns, to run side by side for a year at a time. A World War I aerial campaign and a World War II aerial campaign. At the end of the year, part 2 of each campaign would start and so on until the end of the war(s).

The World War 2 aerial campaign would be limited to aircraft from the specific year covered. Thus the first year of the campaign would cover aircraft in markings from Sept. 1939-Aug. 1940; part 2 would cover Sept. 1940-Aug. 1941; and so on.

The World War 1 aerial campaign would probably be more open; running from year to year like the WW2 campaign but allowing any aircraft from 1914-1918. The problem, as I see it, is the relatively few possibilities from 1914-1916 and I don't want anyone left out.

I thought about opening these up to any models, not just aircraft, from those time period but thought it might become unwieldy.I have some control over the AeroScale side of things, so figured I'd limit it to here. If the other sites want to run parallel campaigns on their subjects, great!

I know it's a bit late to get started on the first ones which should have been 1 Sept. at the latest, but with it running for a full year I figured we could get away with it.

What do you all think of this? Let me know as soon as possible and I can get 'em going.

Definitely worthwhile, I think that the gallery at the end of each year could be amazing with the only limitation on build being the year of the markings!

I'm in!

I'm confused. Are you suggesting a six year campaign, or a one year broken up into years of war sections?

Ben,

Here's what I'm suggesting:

1. For WWI, 4 one year campaigns (1914-'15, '15-'16, '16-'17, '17-'18). As I stated above, these would each be open to aircraft from the entire war due to the dearth of kits from the early years, but the builder could certainly emphasise the particular year if possible.

2. For WWII, 6 one year campaigns (1939-'40, '40-'41, '41-'42, '42-'43, '43-'44, '44-'45). Given that there are more WWII subjects available, these would each be limited to aircraft of the given year.

Each campaign would start on 1 September of the year in question (yes, I know I'm late this year; I just came up with the idea) and end on 31 August, the next campaign starting the next day.

Hope that's clearer!

Michael

Michael, I admire the scope of your vision.
We have become comfortable with the perennial Hanger Queens campaign series, so a WWI-100 and WII-75 series are definately within our capabilities.

I feel sure I could find some models to build in at least some of those years.

Even though I'm not campaigning much right now, who knows whats in store for the future.
Frankly, I'd thought about a 2nd Tactical Air Force Campaign some time back; that fits right into this, without having another separate campaign. There is so much subject matter to choose from, it would be tough not to sign up for this. At least portions of it.
