Is it neccessary to buy a resin cockpit set when you buy a Pe ste that has cockpit details included? I am wondering if this is needed when modelling planes from the big companies (Tamiya etc?)

Hi there

The simple answer is that it all depends on what's included in the detail set and how accurate the original kit parts are. Some people combine multiple detail sets from different manufacturers to get the best from each - an expensive luxury!

PE and resin are both great in their own ways.

PE is excellent for instrument panels etc, but less suitable for depicting tubes, knobs and pipe-work - where a more "3-D" efect is required.

Resin comes into it's own here, with detailed tubs, sidewalls, control columns and seats etc.

Hope this helps

it all depends on the kit !

For a kit from tamiya or hasegawa, often, no resin or PE will be needed !
Sometimes, you only want to add a bit of detail so PE is great !
Sometimes, you want to completely rework the cockpit, so resin will be more suitable ! Also, you could scratchbuild stuff from plasticard !

PE and resin are never a necessity ! it all depends on what yu haven what you want, and what you can pay.

Good, :-) I particularly prefer the cockpit set of the different manufactures resins (Black Box, CED, Aires, etc.) because some set of Pe that you bring some models in general they don't have a lot of details and they are not up-to-date.

For this reason I recommend you to obtain, according to the selected kit, the cockpit set in resin that better it seems you and that this inside your possibilities in relation to costs and value.

All the best.
