Also interesting is that the W.29 has been listed as "sold out" as a stand-alone kit for some time. So, could these be sprues that were held back specially for the Duellists, or fresh production?

Most likely new production - there has continuous talk of re-releasing sold out kits as "special editions", so I guess the Duelist combo is special enough
I guess there is double edged sword of being Limited Edition - assures that modelers buy up your stock for the stashes quickly, the flipside is that hoarding and dumping OOP kits becomes a legitimate business... Like W.29's get scalped for $250 and this bundle will make sure that some of that money gets funneled to the WnW crew instead...
