Hi everyone, well for Christmas I was given the Airfix 1:72 Vulcan and here is a little blog to show my build progress. Hope you all enjoy!!

So this is the box.

First thing to build was the cockpit and the two crew. I slightly changed the colours to make it a little brighter on the inside.

This is it for today. More to come tomorrow!!

Might have been a different end to WWII had the Germans had these babies.

(maybe this needs to be moved to Cold War?)

I've had the urge to do this one every now and then but I think I have settled on 144-scale for such an undertaking by now ! I'll keep an eye on your build though!

Your LADY got that for you? My wife has struck a "no-kits-deal" with both Santa, the Easter Bunny and probably the Swedish Prime Minister as well. Not that I need any more kits but anyway ...

Si
Great start,

I believe there is an accuracy issue with the kit.
It doesn't have pointy ears.

Sorry had to be said.Once a trekkie always a trekkie.

Cheers

Chris

@Chris - you had me confused when you said ears there Chris but I get you (even though I a Star Wars guy) I get you lol Cheers though!!

So, Mthe main construction is now done and sanded, just needs some of the gaps filling and then a little re sand but almost ready for paint. All I'm going to say is she's a monster!

Even though due to the very small windows in the cockpit this is what the inside looks like and then with the two pilots added.

And to protect them I added the canopy.

And then the big construction, and my god its a biggie!

With my little ME109 on top for reference on size.

And finally where it will end up on my shelf.

That's all for now, back at base so I'm not going to be able to work on it till the weekend. Hope your all enjoying!

Size is only one of the reasons I will stick to 144 for these, the other is that I lack the necessary stamina for finishing such a project !

Regarding my wife's agreement with Santa: I'm old enough to buy my own toys so it's not that big a problem. And I love her anyway !

Si,
Nice start on that monster of a kit. Your IP really looks quite nice.

I'm in the same corner as Magnus, no modeling gifts from my loving wife. But there is no issues to anything that I buy either. And 1/48 scale isn't exactly cheap as most of my kits are $50-60 plus these days. Add in a few pieces of AM parts, and I'm looking at $100 or so per kit. She also never said a word about the Model/Computer room that I just decided I needed when I got back into the hobby. Good thing we have two unused bedrooms, with one used as a guest room.

Like Magnus said, I'm at a age where I don't want gifts, I can and do buy what I need. Same for her. However, that rule doesn't apply to our son.

This is a cruel world we live in lol I've been buying all my models myself but my lady treated me out without me knowing to it, wonder if she is going to treat me to anything for my birthday lol Got to say though, I only have one 1:48 scale model as it stands, for some reason it seems to me to be a undesirable scale to build, I prefer the 1:72, 1:32 and 1:35 scales. But I know how they can get expensive like.

So what does the model/computer/man room look like? My lady, once she seen how much stuff I had didnt really have no choice with me getting a room, but to say thank you I got her one of circular cuddle sofa for the livingroom lol

Hi all, just a little update. I've started to spray it now that the wings have been attached. I started with a base coat of white and now I'm going along individually painting every panel so when the colour gets sprayed on it doesn't look the same all over.

As you can see, some of the base coat white came off, but I'll cover that with the grey. This is going to take a while me thinks.

Well a year in and its still no where near complete. However It has the base under coats and first colour grey coat.

I will get round to it, I promise lol

Cheers

I'm feeling an affinity to your "bigger than can be displayed easily" model.
Like the music stand idea by the way!
