Recently I acquired a photograph of a Wessex HAS mk1, and am planning on buying the 1/48 Revell Wessex HAS mk3. The photo was taken in 1969, and shows the helicopter with bands of International Orange, and is very attractive.

But not being very familiar with the Wessex, I am curious as to the differences, if any, between the two marks.

I think the big changes were twin gnome engines and a radome in the rear.

Well, the photo was taken in 1969, at Thorney Island, and the serial is XP117 and is an HAS Mk1.

So, if I take the radome off the model, would that be the only significant external change that would be needed?

I'm actually a little unclear. But I think that the has3 ones that were upgraded from has1 spec retained Napier gazelle as the engine. And the new-build ones were twin gnome. But like I say, it's fuzzy. Hopefully someone can elucidate because the different powerplants likely show.
