Hi All,
I finally have my Corsair done and have a few good pics of it if you want to check them out.
Let me know what you think, but please be gentle. This is my first attempt at using silver pencil to simulate paint wear and chipping.
I am bummed out about one thing after completing this Corsair. I really took my time and test fit this and that etc...No matter how I fiddled, and fiddled, and fiddled, messed around, and then fiddled some more, I just could not get the two folded wings perfectly even with each other.
Oh well,...another learning experience I suppose.
Here is one pic. The rest are in my gallery if you want to check them out.
Good modeling to all,
Wayne

Wayne, nice job. One of my all-time favorite aircraft. I've got to build a folded wing one someday as well. Keep up the good work.

I think you have done a very nice job on your model! What scale is this? I'm guessing 1/32 by the detail. About the silver pencil to show chipping and ware, I think a few larger chips here and there. And alot less of the smaller ones. On the wing root where the pilot mounts the cockpit there should be a large area of ware from griding feet, some what rubbed to bare metal. You have the right idea, and its a fine looking model ! Not being critical mate !
Just a few helpful tips.
Cheers,
Garry

Hi Wayne
Nice job! Don't be too fed up about the wings... I just checked some Corsair reference pics and some of them show a/c with wings folded at uneven angles!
All the best

Thank guys,
I appreciate the kind words.
Garry - I appreciate any advice I can get. Being that I used the silver pencil, I can still always go back after doing a little bit more research and using your tips to make the effect even hopefully more realistic.
Good modeling,
Wayne

Hi mate, I really think that is the great job Wayne, don't worry but I also that the wing root where the pilot mounts the cockpit there should be a large area of ware...well, I would prefer that you think about that...

Hi Wad_ware
Very Nice! I hope the Trumpeter 1/32" F4U-1D I am now working on comes out half-as-nice as yours!
Happy Modeling!

:-) Nice Corsair Wayne, I mention the the folded wing "problem" in my article Pacific Corsair There is not much you can do about it because all the parts that go into the folded wing option would have to be perfectly aligned, and that is all but impossible. The solution is to add the folded wing supports, parts B1. Paint em glos red or yellow, add so fairly heavy weathering in steel and they add a nice bit of colour as well. Or as Rowan says leave em, as real Corsairs had slight differences. Adding them, Though, does add strength to the assembly :-)

Great looking bird. Looks like she's waiting for the jockey to take her skywards.
It would be nice to see pics in a sea/Pacific setting.
Fly baby fly.

She looks great in all her glory. That is a job well done. Just one little note of obsevance. The Skull and Cross bones decal on the left front looks like it silvered up on you. (Bad Decal!!)#:-)
I have been there myself many times too.
Great Job though.. So what an we look foward to see next??

Thanks again everyone,
I appreciate all your comments and tips. Advice from others is one of the absolute best ways to learn to do things even better the next time around.
You are right about the decal. It did silver up on me a little bit. I airbrushed with future beforehand, set the decal good, used decal solvent. Decals are funny little creatures. You never know when or if the are going to act up on you .
I had actually thought about making some kind of diorama with the Corsair but hadn't given it too much serious thought as of yet. A Pacific based theme sounds very interesting and could be a lot of fun. :-)
Good modeling,
Wayne
