I recently got this model and was wondering if there was maybe a review or build up of it somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris
There's a short review at the back of D&S Vol 51. They point out a few improvements to this fine kit.
Hope this helps

Hi Chris,
Here is a link to a review of the kit at squadron.com. I know a few other good review sites. If I find any more for the kit I'll pass them along.

I dont want to sound like Im trying to be mean or anything but you probably should have saved your money and ended up buying the 1/48 Tamiya P-51D. There a lot of things that are wrong on the Hasegawa kit that the Tamiya and even the Revell kit corrects.

Your not being mean, Zach. I appreciate the info, I just wanted to do a 1/32 Mustang. I will check the others out.
Thanks to the other guys for the help.

Hi Zach
What are the problems? I've never built the kit, but D&S really rate it...
"Although this kit has been around for over twenty years, it is still easily the best Mustang kit in 1/32 scale and one of the best in any scale..."
... and, about the Revell kit....
"Although the fuselage and wing parts are obviously different, it appears that the fit and accuracy problems of Revell's 1/32 scale P-51B were retained in this kit... Suffice it to say, the Hasegawa 1/32 scale Mustang is far and away the better choice."
The only points the review picks up on in the Hasegawa kit are the fabric covered rudder and elevators (most P-51Ds had metal covered), a poor pilot's seat and rather basic wheel wells.
I usually think of D&S as a very reliable reference, so it would be useful to know if they've messed up on this one.
All the best

Hi Chris
Sorry, that's me being lazy ... Detail & Scale Volume 51. It covers the P-51D through to the F-82H. It has lots of walkaround pics and a model review section at the back. It pre-dates the Trumpeter 1/24 scale kit (unless it's been revised and re-printed) but has sections on most of the available kits (and some ancient collectors' items).

Well the Hasegawa has the shape of the nose cone wrong, the canopy is wrong, and the basic measurements like the wingspan, length of the a/c, etc. are wrong too.

Hi Zach
It's weird! D&S really rate it and totally trash the Revell kit... they say Revell got the nose wrong (along with a list of other stuff...)!
Oh I love references!

Hi again Zach
I just had a thought... we are all talking about the same kit aren't we?
I just followed Wadware's links and they were for Hasegawa's 1/48 scale kit, and you also mention the Tamiya kit... who don't do a 1/32 scale Mustang (or do they?).
It'd be great if this was all a classic scale mix up!

Hi,
I am curious now too. I must have misunderstood in the beginning. I thought the model in question was for the 1/48th.
If I misunderstood and am wrong ...whoops......sorry

I know Armour66 was wanting stuff on the Hasegawa 1/32 kit but I said to save his money for the 1/48 Tamiya kit. Everything I said about the Hasegawa is the 1/32, the Revell thing I dont know where that came from lol. The Trumpeter 1/24 P-51 is actually the worst out of all of the big scale -51s because its like a whole new aircraft, nothing on it is correct.

Hi again
I just found a site which quotes the dimensions of Hasegawa's kit, and Zack's quite right - they are approx 1 scale foot too small.
On a more positive note, I also found an article in the May 2001 issue of Fine Scale Modeler about how to bring the kit up to present-day standards - the result is pretty spectacular. :-) Chris, if you haven't got this, or can't get hold of a back issue, let me know and I'll try to scan it for you.
