I have a question to anyone out there who has completed the Airfix 1/24 Typhoon. What is the distance between the trailing edge of the rudder and the main gear? I'm trying to figure out if it will fit on a certain shelf once I've built it. Thanks!

Sorry, I was going to actually go and look when I saw no one had replied, but mine are unbuilt, so I can't give you a helpful measurement.

Hi Michael, mine is still in its box after transportation to SMW but I need to get it out to photograph it and to prepare the masks for the shark mouth version. I will get it out today and take the measurement

That would be great Mal, thanks! I've finally finished the Great Wall F-15D and the Typhoon is next on the list (whether it fits or not).

Hi Michael,
I have measured the best that I can, its awkward as the model is in flight, as you see, and so the wheels are up. An accurate measurement is not possible but it something like 320mm that's 12.6", it could be around 5mm 0.2" either way!

Thanks Mal, that should just fit. The shelf is about 12.5 inches but it stands away from the wall by a couple of inches so the tail can hang off a bit.

I'm building the 1/72 and the 1/24 kit and have started the little one, but I think I'll need more paint before I get going on the big one. I plan to blog about it in the Hot Out of the Molds Campaign, so we'll see how it goes.

I just measured my recently completed Typhoon, and it's just about 13" from the trailing edge of the rudder to the contact patch on the main gear tires. Hope that helps. When I store mine in my cabinet, I do remove the rudder to fit in the case.

Thanks Matthew. The shelf I plan to put mine on stands out 2-3 inches from the wall, so I should be good.
