These three cars will operate on my model railroad which follows the Alaska Marine Lines rail-barge route between Seattle, WA and Wittier, AK. and is set in the early '80's.
Once I've finished constructing the simulator, I was hoping to construct a 1:72 B-52 to place overhead.
I already have a model of the EIB news building on the layout, which includes a programmable LED news-ticker.
Once I complete the B-52, I was thinking about creating a headline on the news-ticker that would indicate that some aspect of the Cold-War had turned hot and the B-52 was on a strategic mission against one of America's enemies. I just have several questions regarding both the B-52 itself and the headline/scenario placing it somewhere between Seattle and Whittier while on a strategic mission.
Since the simulator was actually designed for the B-52D, I was wondering if any D's were still in service in 1982 and, if they were, if such an old platform would be sent on a strategic mission, or if only a G would be assigned this mission?
On a strategic mission, would there be any ordnance or additional fuel pods on the B-52's external hard-points, or would everything be internal?
Are there any realistic scenarios in which a B-52 en-route Pyongyang would be passing between Whittier and Seattle? While I prefer to make the target Pyongyang, as this could indicate a limited war, if targeting Pyongyang would not take a B-52 between Seattle and Whittier, would another target, such as Vladivostok take a B'52 through this area?
Would the aircraft on such strategic missions fly alone, in formation with other B-52's and/or in formation with a fighter escort?
Are there any other details you can think of that I should include with this B-52 model?
