Hey all.....well I am trying my hand at something new for me. WWII German aircraft.

My local club is having a special catagory at our show coming up in May for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings, and I chose to build a Me-109D....its a 1/48 Hobbycraft kit....but surprisingly it is pretty good as far as detail goes....actually has a cockpit interior instead of decals....although the canopy doesn't open....so its pretty much all for not.

Anyway....if anyone has some references for 109s...I would appreciate some help at it....I went to start the cockpit today and it struck me that I don't even know what the interior color would have been as not having built any WWII models at all....all pretty much a modern aircraft and armor builder.

thanks in advance for your help!!!

Hi Viper

A prime reference site is the 109 Lair.

I don't want to sound discouraging, but I've never found a reference of a Bf109D being used to oppose the Allied landings; by 1944 they had long been relegated to the training role.

Anyway, when the Ds were built, the basic cockpit interior colour was RLM 02, but by 1944 the standard colour was RLM 66. There's a chance they may have been repainted, but I doubt they received a great deal of TLC...

All the best

Merlin, thanks a lot for the link! Very useful! I'm about to get myself the E-3/4 versions. BTW, do you have any Spitfire walkarounds too especially the Mk1?

Well, if I can get my scanner working, I can e-mail you a LOT of stuff over the 109.

Thanks for the link Merlin.....after I posted this I went looking for some info myself and stumbled upon a site that had the whole lay out of the entire 109 series....not really much for pics and sparse on info....but it did say that the D model may have seen some action in the invasion of Poland and then retired to training squadrens.

OH well....maybe no one will notice!!!! LOL

Cool....he even has a full build article on the same kit I have......double thanks Merlin!!

For a really good 109 site this http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/index-1024.php is one of the best. It only has one drawback, most of the site is in german. You will find some good reference photos, including the cockpit.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to the air Scott. It's fresh up here.
Merlin's right...the D was old by Normandy.
There was a massive variation in camo schemes, so you just might find something to your liking.
Good luck.
Cheers
