Does anybody have information on the gliders used in the invasion of Normandy?
I'm looking for dimensioned drawings or some basic size info on these buggers. It's been awfully difficult to find any good info.
Thanks a ton!

Scott, the glider you refer to (used by U.S. troops) was the Waco CG-4A.
There are some pics and specs HERE

Just a note for you, Revell used to make a 1/72nd kit of it. Kit # H-2012, don't know if you'll ever be able to find it though.

If you are interested, I found it over at Military Models.com under the Italeri listings. It's in stock.

Try this site for the other troop-carrier glider, the Airspeed Horsa, as used by the British airborne. http://www.assaultgliderproject.org.uk/
This is also available as a 1/72 kit by Italeri.

Anyone make one of either type in 1/35th. I'd love to do a Dio with one. STUG

Sorry, Stug, not in 1/35, but here's your start if you want to scratch one:

IIRC, didn't the Horsa also appear in U.S. insignia at Normandy?

The Italeri kit does include US markings, it can also be built as a Mk1 or Mk2 (different loading doors etc.).

There was another glider used by the 6th Airborne at Normandy and the 1st Airborne at Arnhem---the Hamilcar, used to pack Tetrarch light tanks, 17 pounders and other large heavy loads that couldn't wait to come in overland in.
