Hello all! Anyone of you got close ups and pics of any SBD units especially the SBD-3,5 and 6? Are there any visual differences (aside from the colors) within this 3 kits? Thanks!

Hi,

Squadron makes a decent reference SBD Walk Around that should answer most your questions. The -3 & -5 are definitely different - The -5 does not have the carb intake on top of the cowling and different arrangement for cowl flaps. The -6 is different from the -5, but I will have to locate my references.

Basically, differences are all teh nose of the aircraft. Additionally, teh -3 could carry either a siingle gun in back (early) or a double gunmount (late), while -5 & -6 had double mounts.

Hi
Here is a site that might be of some help to you.
http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/
This is the Aircraft Resource Center. Go to the 'Walkarounds' link and then choose the 'propeller walkarounds'. There are all of SBD 3's but have some really good photos. The first one in the list has some excellent cockpit shots.
The squadron reference listed earlier is a book you can order from squadron.com if you are interested in reading/photo reference. Their walkaround books are very good.

Hope this helps you out some. If I find any more I will post it here for you too.
Good modeling,
Wayne
