a friend at work asked me to build a model of the plane he worked on in the Navy, He was in VS-41 at North Island California. The model is going together very well. It has nice surface detail and will be a lot of fun to build. It will be grey and white with the shamrock insignia on the tail.

it will be flying so needed some pilots, borrowed from a Huey helo

Doug,
The pit does look rather good especially with the two pilot figures.

the canopy in the kit is tinted very nicely but the windshield on the viking was not tinted just the side parts so I got a Squadron replacement for the kit

I will need to tint the side panels but that is easy with the Tamiya smoke color

engines, since I did not want a seam line on the inside of the intake for the engines I cut them apart along the thrust reverser line and inserted the fan blades after cleaning up the seam on the inside.

Really nice build. The gray over white paint scheme was always my favorite on the Viking.

Doug,
A most impressive build so far. The decaling really came out quite well.

thanks, the guy I built it for was in the back seat on one flight and over the gulf of Mexico was forced to eject along with the pilots. I wanted to represent that moment in time so I made a removable ejecting crewman. this is how it came out.

Hey Chris
Thanks for the kind words, as far as the kit goes it is a very good fit with nice scribed lines and very good detail. My only complaints are these, the engines need to be worked on a bit as the seam in the intake would be very ugly with those big open cowls, and the windshield should be clear with tinted side panels and not all tinted as in the kit, but that can be rectified with a Squadron canopy if you want to go to that length.

I have not given it to my buddy yet as he is on vacation but will let you know if he likes it.

forgot to post this picture of my buddy, he liked the model and the ejection seat surprise was a hit too, it is removable so he can display with or without it.
