I managed to get a little bench time in this summer and finish off a bunch of shelf queens. Some are already posted into the Hangar Queen campaign, the 262 is for that campaign. All in 1/72

Nice little collection! They all look great! Did you paint the NMF on the He 162, or use something like BMF, or aluminium foil? I can't tell from the picture.

shhhh.. don't tell the rivet counter color police..
It's Testor's rattlecan aluminum.. maybe silver.. dang it, now I gotta go check...Testors Gloss Metallic Silver (blue label).

Sealed w acrylic Model Master semigloss and then the putty lines (a couple of medium grey Vallejo's, I did not note the numbers) and a Ammo of Mig grey RLM wash, wiped back with a barely wet with odorless thinner brush.
I think they call it 'stumping' , it's supposedly an art term, go figger.

Can some one give me the run down on the red bellied 190s?

Late war airfield defence for 262's (Me 163?) who were especially vulnerable on takeoff and landing. Red belly to keep itchy trigger fingered aa gunners from shooting the wrong guys. If I am remembering correctly.

That matches my guess that it was to keep the flak gunners from scoring own goals. And given the task of the D9s and other prop jobbies was to defend the airfields at low level to allow Me262s to take off and land this would explain why I have not come across it on aircraft other then the late Fw190s and D9s.

Any other advice or references?
