Steffen,
Outstanding progress for sure since I last stopped by. Your final rigging looks perfect to me, with every "wire" looking to be stretched to the same standards. That's something I always struggle with even when doing multi antenna wires.

Thanks Joel,

actually there are a few that are less streched but I did not want to apply too much drag on the wires as this can lead to some damage. The main wires are invisible thread drawn through holes drilled through the wings and fixed with CA. Only the only the crossed wires between the outboard struts are UvdR rigging thread. The latter were a nerve wrecking experience and it took me since my last post to attach them. I also applied a mid grey wash to the panel lines .. looks o.k. now:

Now some more bits'n'pieces and I might actually get it with me to Telford. At the moment I am playing with the prop and aux. fuel tank.

all the best

Steffen
P.S: you see my thumb so you can imagine what kind of hassle this rigging is for me

Thanks Rowan!

Today I have started applying th esmall parts .. looks pretty good so far. Only problem will be the wood part on the prop. I am still undecided if I will use decals or if I just paint it wood colour:

It is pretty dark already so the pix had to be reworked, which means some colour variation compared to other pix.

all the best

Steffen,
An absolutely outstanding build to date. Your rigging is just spectacular even with the size of your fingers. The less confidence I have in duplicating it with the F2F-1.

That dark Gray recessed panel wash really makes those panel lines pop, yet not stand out. Very nicely done.

Hi, Steffen

I was following silently your build. I finished not long ago a Braille from Roden and it was a rather bitter affair. I like early ww2 airplanes (I have a HS 123, a Polikarpov and an Aircobra in my stash). I was longing for an 51. Your blog make me regain confidence in Rodin.

Great build, thank you for sharing.

PS. I would choose to paint the prop.

Cheers,
Gabriel

Lovely build Steffen, the paintwork looks really good with the grey wash and the rigging came up nicely.

It really is a great looking biplane design I think.

Cheers, D

Thank you Gabriel and Damian!

@Gabriel: this is no shake'n'bake kit like Tamiya, Hasegawa, new Revell or new Eduard stuff. The latter have exceptions too, but I do not expect it from these companies.

So when I buy eastern european stuff (Roden and ICM are the better of those, with Zvezda being far better) I do expect ill fitting parts and filling and sanding. Dryfitting everything is essential!! It all depends what you expect. Rodens He 51 is a very good kit and a lot of fun but if I'd find such a kit in a Tamiya box I would be deeply disappointed...

just my 2ct

Hi Steffen

It's looking great.

Have a wonderful trip to Telford, and say "Hi" to the gang for me - Jean-Luc especially, if he's going too.

All the best

Thanks Rowan!

sadly I have no time for a photo session. The pix above were again made in bad lighting conditions.

I am off to J-L now and will send him your greetings .. this will be a fun weekend.

Steffen,
The finished wood prop really looks quite good, as does the finish model. Well done my friend, very well done.

Nice job Steffen

I've long had a soft spot for the He 51, so I'm looking forward to tackling Roden's kit too one of these days.

Very nice build Steffen, I'll admit I missed your build of this and have only just caught up. Great work.

ps. I do intend to pick up the Silver wings version in 1/32, I love the look of those late 20's and 30's biplanes.

Wow many responses on this, thank you guys!

I just wanted to complete the thread, while the kit is actually done for many moons now.

Steffan - I am delighted to have discovered this thread as I have recently acquired this kit . You have done a beautiful job with it . Among other aftermarket things I have gathered for a someday build I purchased the Classic Airframes He 51 Luftwaffe decals for it . Have you any experience/ advice/ warnings about these decals ? Thanks ( Danke?) for any help - Richard

Steffen,

Another masterful build. I have this as part of Eduard's Condor Legion boxing so this will be of great assistance to me.

Thank you Richard and Kent!

@Richard: the CA decals are Microscale printed IIRC and I had no problems with them. OTOH they are thin so a bit of care is not that bad!

@Kent: I have the Legion Condom box too and it has very good decals, PE and Masks plus it is 6 Euro cheaper than the sole Roden He 51 here in Germany. Can't go wrong with that kit...
