Mal, that's such a generous offer: I would love a set of Masks!
But at no cost??? Are you certain?

I think the starter set I have is your scheme A.

I noticed you have fitted the canopies prior to painting: I wasn't sure whether to do this or not since I chose to display it in the open position? Do you think I should?

I usually fit the canopy before painting; if the canopy is going to be open I fit the parts that are fixed. But there is nothing wrong with fitting them after painting, I just feel that they are more vunerable?

yes, it's the only one I could get here in Australia, since all the ordinary BP Defiant kits seem to have been gobbled up before we antipodeans got a look in Check back at the start of this thread and you'll see the one I mean. It's the one Airfix market with the paints, glue and brush, to 'start' newbies into the hobby

Normally I would fit the canopy prior to painting too. This being my first 'open' canopy I wasn't sure. I think I am going to attached the fixed pieces as i find it 'safer' in case there are any gaps that need filling...

M.M.M.M... Marvelous Mal's Magnificent Masks!

but more on that later. First up a coat of dark earth

Then I start to apply the masks that Mal had so kindly supply and realized that I had stupidly fitted the front wind screen the wrong way around. Thus I had to rip it off and re-fit it after sanding back the surrounding area

Then re-spray

masks all fitted

dark green

masks off

and all assembled

Love the way Airfix have designed the prop to be fitted after painting and still spins!

underside. I made another sill mistake and fitted the wheels to the wrong side, which means the flat sits the wrong way on the ground. Oh well-who's gonna know except for me and you

Next up, clear gloss coat before decals and weathering...

Thanks for looking

Russell,
Just a 1st rate job on the camo paint scheme. Mal's masks are a dream to work with as I used them on my Spitfire Mk lXc build.

i too have this kit along with a set of masks kindly sent to me by mal (i'm the phil in his post) mine is also the dornier 17Z/defiant starter kit and will most likely be my next kit that i start when i'm clear of my current project, also the bulldogs will be attending a model show at the cosford museum so i'm hoping to see the other half of this duo in real life.

update, 11th April

clear coat on...

and all finished...

this was a fun kit, and it was good to get one under the belt after being bogged down on ships the last couple of years.

Overall the kit from Airfix was fun, good value for money and a satisfying build. The masks from Eduard and Mal were the only AM and were superb! Thanks again go to Mal for his generosity!

The model was primarily painted with Humbrol, the only non-humbrol product was the dull cote from Testors which was a let down i'm afraid to say.

Thanks again for dropping by and looking and all your kind comments...

till next time...
