I have a few Kingfishers in my stash along with a resin interior for the Monogram kit - a kit I have built probably a dozen times over the decades. Love the Os2U - don't know why but I do. The big question I wrestle with now is 'how many will I buy' to build all these cool variants?

Well, Fred, you'd better set aside some cash, since I would think any OS2U guy would want to build the pre-war "yellow wings" version, the early war "meat ball" one, and the mid- to late-war tricolor version. Not to mention the Lend-Lease Soviet configuration or even the RAF variant. So start with a minimum of three and either sell or give away the Monogram kits in your stash. Life is too short, haha!

Hmm... I have not this kit, but judging by pictures, they provided EDO float, and missed the Vought one.

I have been wrong before, Sergey, but according to my reading of Dana Bell's excellent book on the Kingfisher AND information from Kitty Hawk, the kit comes with the Vought float.
The company told me they may release the EDO version at a later time.

With all respect, it's EDO float in the kit. I have Dana Bell's book. I can post pictures to prove my statement.

Not needed, Sergey, you were correct. I checked with Dana and the kit has the EDO floats. Pre-war Kingfishers had the Vought floats, but after the war started, the EDO floats replaced them because the Navy found the Voughts too weak. You're fine with the kit if you build a post-1941 Kingfisher, but modelers can't accurately build the USS Arizona

just an outstanding review. Well done. I did have my heart set on the USS Arizona variant, but that will have to wait. I'm definitely in for 2, maybe 3. A dream release come true. And this is coming from a 1/38 scale guy.

Thanks, Joel, this is one I have been waiting for a long time, too. I predict someone will bring out the Vought floats soon, either KH or a resin guy.
You quarter scale guys will have to bite your tongues, haha! You have such a plethora of kits to choose from, we 32-scale guys are getting some love from the plastic folks.

When someone asks me what 1/32nd scale plane I wish would be released, I pretty much say "any."

I'm not holding my breath for a1/48 scale kit any time soon. What I'm waiting for is for some of the really talented AM guys to make a scale catapult that one would have found on a Battleship. I'd buy that in a second. Unfortunately, my scratch building skills leave way too much to be desired to even contemplate such a venture.

Well, jokey responses aside, if you want to watch a company go bust, by all means encourage it to ignore a major market share...
We'll probably find 1:72 still eclipses the lot.
This artificial scale rivalry nonsense does my head in sometimes. I love 'em all, from large to small, and I just want to see companies thriving.

Rowan, of course I agree with you, and I would be happy to see KH scale down their CADs and do a quarter scale version. The more, the merrier. My old eyes can't handle anything below 1/32nd scale however.

I have seen a photo on another forum showing a Kingfisher being loaded aboard an after catapult on the USS Arizona that clearly has an EDO float, so I'm no longer positive you can't build the "yellow wings" versions in the kit with EDO floats. Go figure!

I finally dug out some on my notes on this question - I left the answer too vague for too long.
Those yellow-winged battleship Kingfishers were repainted overall Light Gray in early 1941, while they still had Vought floats. The Edo floats began to turn up in late July/early August, and the aircraft were again repainted (to Light Gray/Blue Gray) in August/September.
