Guys,

I am thinking of doing a couple of Mogadishu helicopters, probably a littlebird and a blackhawk, obviously quite a popular subject and lots of info here to help me.

I'm pretty much there with the Delta uniforms and gear, this is a wip shot of some modification in progress to one of the heads. Not much but it's a start !

My question is what the pilots would be wearing specifically. In the movie (allowing for artistic licence), there seems to be a mix of SPH-4 and HGU-56 flight helmets but I don't know enough about the rest of the uniform to recognise the components, flight suit, survival vest ? etc. Can anyone help out or point me in the direction of some decent images ?

Many thanks

Andy, I think SPH-4 helmets were more appropriate for the timeframe.

Also, some uniform info that I collected from one of the helo crewmen that day. From my stickied Gothic Serpent post.

"As for the crews, they all wore desert sand colored flying suits with a pistol usually on the thigh and their survival vest (unsure what type) and helmet, personal weapons were MP-5 or M-16 usually."

As Gino said they did wear tan flight suits, but they were the two piece. Seen here the members of 160th carrying Mike Durrant after his return. Note the ALSE vest they are wearing.

Also seen here the crew with the two piece flight suit and the ALSE vest. Check out the Military Power book "Night Stakers" by Zenith Press. They have some good reference photos of equipment for that time frame. Amazon Link

Andy,

I am not sure if timeframe and kit are correct, but definitely worth looking at this site and the aircrew figures.

No, they are all too modern at Reedoak. Norbert was/is working on a 160th SOAR crew set though, so we will see.

Chris, as Gino said the reedoak fgures are more modern but are excellent nonetheless ! Thanks for the reply.

Gino, didn't know Norbert was looking at SOAR figures, interested to see if he gets around to it, thanks.

No, you can order them directly from the website though. They actually make them after you order them.
