If any single figure in aeronautics managed to capture my attention for, and love of aviation, it was this man.
His sometimes dry way of writing hinted at something more. And there was always much, much more.
He always seemed matter-of-fact, but others who knew him would write about his often hair-raising exploits.
When a picture tells a thousand words, photographs of Brown's carrier trials with the D.H.Vampire would take many volumes to describe.

Farewell Sir.

Farewell Captain Brown, to eternal tailwinds and blue skies. An extraordinary man who made the incredible seem ordinary.

Never has the Naval Toast of the Day been more appropriate.

"Absent Friends."

Fair winds and following seas to you, Sir. Travel lightly.

I happened across Capt. Brown many years ago at a book-signing in London. I wisely stayed firmly on the sidelines, because to say he was a "character" would be the understatement of the year as he politely "shot down" more than a few enthusiasts who thought they knew more about aircraft than he did.

R.I.P. after an amazing life well lived.

New York Times in the US acknowledges his passing. He was known to all in the aviation community whether you flew planes or build kits of them:

I feel if that there is anyone who didnt care about the nationality of planebuilders but about the planes and their performance than it was him. A very special character. RIP
