Not a Swordfish nor a Shark, there is not enough gap between engine and struts. I'll keep looking.

It may be a Pitcairn Mailwing. The engine is a wright J-5?

There's another copy of that photo on pinterest, but as I don't have an account I can't see what it is. I googled 'biplane,nose, engine' and it came up about halfway down the first page

Not a J-5 engine. I found this photo on a photogrpher's website (which I can't remember the name of) and it was identified as a vintage biplane.

It's possible that it's a parasol wing and not a biplane

So, the MS 230 was used as a movie version of the "secret new monoplane" the Germans were developing in the plot of the film. "The Blue Max is one of my favourite war movies...
