G'day Darren, and welcome aboard. After seeing the recent builds that you have been posting over on the P-47 SIG Forums I have no doubt that this will be a great build to follow.

Cheers, D

Looking forward to seeing what you do with this Jug Darren. I'm hoping it'll crystalise just what I want to do with my build.

I have 4 razorbacks, 1 bubbletop and 2 P47M's in various stages of completion - plan to do at least 2 other 56th FG aircraft beside PengieII in the next 12 months. The others will be decided as I go............

All the best for your P47 build!

Darren, nice to see a Tamiya with the flaps up! Don't seem to see all too often.

Hi John

I am guilty of building lots with flaps down, generally because I couldn't get a good fit with them up. I added them to wings before I attached to fuselage and this made a huge difference.

Thanks
Darren

Hi Darren,

Noticed that you had attached the flaps prior to attaching the wings. Made a mental note to do it that way next time! Just finished doing mine up, and got good fit using my knife with a #11 blade and scraped it to keep the mating edges square. It worked, but a little time consuming. Nice to see something before you give it a go. Thanks!

Pengie II Update

Preshaded in my mottle mess style
Neutral Gray is on and red cowl and tail are done
White stripe on tail on though will be painted over per references, stabilisers should be same methinks?

UC doors are also done and gloss coated.

Til next time....

Looking good Darren, I'm interested to see how that random mottle preshading looks under the top coats.

Hi Damian

I have already started the OD over the black in the pics, just used some leftover paint from another job last night.
Thin coats followed by a further thinned overall base coat helps pulls it together, then add weathering etc and all "hopefully" looks OK............

Hi Darren

The mottle coat looks really interesting and I can't wait to see what it will look like with the top coat[s] on. One question - what colours did you use for the mottle coat?

Regards,
Kobus

Hi Kobus,

The mottle coat is Tamiya Nato Black, dark grey and OD. Any colour is Ok as long it is darker than the top coats.
Have fun and play around with it on an old model for practice.
I finished the OD last night on my RB and really happy with results, will post some pics this week.

Thanks
Darren

Hey Darren!

I really like the black basing technique too! Have used it a couple of times and will admit it beats the heck out of pre-shading the panel lines any day. Saves paint too!

Hi Darren,

Thank you for the feedback - much appreciated!

Can't wait to see the Jug with the top coat(s) on - I'm sure it's going to look awesome.

Looking really good Darren, that pre shading technique works beautifully.

The markings look great as well. I am assuming that they settled down ok?

Hi Damian

The decals are from Nigel's book and they worked super!
The rest of decals are a mix of kit and leftovers from my collection.

The weathering process is going well - plan to do a bit more tonight.

Thanks
Darren

G'day Darren. I hope you've had a really good Christmas mate.

How is this build progressing? I have allowed an extra month on the end of the official time frame, so we have about another 5 weeks in total to get finished.

Cheers, D
