Hi everyone,
My first build of the year, Airfix 1/48 bf.109 E-1.
Started mid January and got it completed today...minus 1 or 2 small additions like the antena cable and a correction of the rudder.
Btw, I added Pavla's resin flying surfaces (rudder is wrongly shaped and I only noticed it today) and wheels, brass guns and AM decals (Airfix decals are prone to silvering- got a few stencils from the kit and all silvered more or less).
The seat is Verliden and the canopy came from Zvezda bf.109 F, which is far more accurate than the one supplied.
UC legs got shortened by 2-3 mm.
Hope you enjoy, I believe Airfix offers the finest Emil in the quarter scale market, albeit its flaws.
Cheers
Pedro

Pedro,
Your painting and weathering is brilliant! Your model is very pleasing to the eye and invite further study.
Well done!

Pedro,
Just an outstanding build. As Gary said, your painting and weathering is just so realistic.

Chris and Joel, thank you so much for stopping by and share some kind words.
Regarding Airfix product quality, they really have raised it quantum leap.
The more I look at the Emil and compare with similar Tamigawa offers, the more I sense it compares much better with the real thing, and actually look the part when side by side with the other makers products.
That said, it builds practically without putty (main concern on my build were the gun inserts on the wings) but comes with an awfull canopy, either E-1/3 version or the E-4/7 that must be replaced (AM hint!!).
So yes, I will build another someday if I can get another spare canopy
Regarding painting, I chose freehand for the fuselage and a 2 step painting method for the wings splinter scheme:
1st I used masks made of tape and 2nd I gently oversprayed the hard RLM 70 edges freehand. More comfortable for me, but I reckon other approaches should be equally effective.
Weathering had both washes, AK, powders and oils.
Cheers,
Pedro

Pedro, I have to repeat both Joel and Gary's comments about the paint and weathering of your Emil build. The fading on the wings and the panel wash are both absolutely first class. Very nice work!

Hi Lars,
I used solely Tamiya liquid glue, at both ends and to merge the middle cable also.
Cheers

Pedro,
Your finished Bf 109E-1 really is a stunning build. Your paint scheme and weathering combined to produce a really quite realistic presentation aircraft.
Looking forward to your next build.

Well, I'm surprised you guys popped out this thread since the last reply was around March. Seems I'm not the only one reading old posts here on Aeroscale
Thank you so much for the feedback, and yes I found Airfix bf.109 E second to none in the quarter scale, although it needs some refinements, especially a new canopy if you're going for a E-1/3.
@ Joel, you can find one of my latest builds on "Lemke's colourful Gustav". Hope you enjoy it also
Cheers
