Hi everyone,
Just completed Eduard's 1/48 Gustav, going from their overtrees to build a very eye catching 109 G, depicted in late 1943.
almost all markings are painted, exception being the underwing crosses and stencils.
Had great fun building it and all vices that came about during the construction were my own.
The only true let down came from the masks initially used. They had poor adhesion, leaking paint underneath and even worse, their size was not ok. So had to repaint a few, after having a few beers
Cheers
Pedro

Hi Pedro
That's really nice! Were they commercial masks, or did you make you own? Regardless of any problems, it's a wonderful colour scheme!
All the best

Hi Rowan!
Thank you for the kind comments!
I actually used 3 different sources for masking; 1- nose spiral came from eduard; 2- yellow 7, bar and yellow "eyes" were homemade; the crosses were initially from maketar and on the 2nd wave I got (from deep within my stash) an old eduard mask for Luftwaffe markings. These, despite their age, worked far better than the previous brand.
Anyway I' still a noob when it come to using masks to paint markings or insignias, so it's been a winding learning experience.
Cheers,
Pedro

Pedro,
Your 109 looks excellent! The painted markings...I wouldn't have guessed, had you not told us.
Brilliant!

Gaz,
Thank you for your kind words! I am overall very pleased with the end result of the kit and its painting. This is especially true for those yellow "eyes" which given the fuselage contours were, to me, a remarkable challenge that pushed the envelope on my noob masking skills.
Again thanks for your feedback,
Cheers

You did a great job all round. Painting and weathering looks top notch to me. Were the masks you used all tape or did you use vinyl?

Simon,
I used vinyl masks for the crosses and some clear low tack school wrapping tape on the bulge markings. Tamiya tape was my choice for the yellow 7 and black bar.
Thanks for your kind feedback!
Cheers

Thank you Simon!
I am pleased with the kit, been thinking in getting a new overtree sometime soon to build another... So many Gustavs to build and so little time & money
Cheers
