Just a thought.
If, like me, airbrushing panel lines is a problem due to facilities available, I often run a black indelible marker around all the recessed details instead and sometimes smudge them a little with a finger before the ink dries.
I've never a had a bleed problem with enamel paints applied on top.
Airbrushing is the the better way, but results have been almost as good if not equal.
Plus the bonus is you simply put the pen top back on when you've finished. No cleaning the airbrush.
Will post next time I do one.
Cheers
Peter

So youre talking about making scribbed panel lines show depth and darker? and what marker can we use ? a fine tip permanent to draw a line following the panel line? It seems .logical, quick effective cheap and clean!!! nice tip mate

:-) Mmmmm, nice idea Peter, this could be worth experimenting with
Nice article Martin, now that I can see how you do it, this is also worth consideration. Have you tried, or thought of trying this idea with coloured pencils. I say this because I, personally, think that panel lines highlighted with black are just a little to stark. However your method is far better than a wash of black., actually I think it's probably more dark grey. So I must like it

I have tried mixing weathering powders with the pencil powder and it does look better. It is one of those techniques that if done subtly can look OK, but if overdone is too much. I use it as it gives an impression of preshading, something I'm rubbish at doing.
