I am looking for a mixing formula that I can use for Tamiya paint to come up with the following colors.
Topside of USN aircraft until 1942 M-485 Blue Gray FS:35189
Lower surfaces of USN aircraft until 1942 M-495 Light Gray FS:36440
Thanks in advance
Bob

Bob -
This may be of some help to you - I tried to post this as a link for you but that wasn't working ( probably my fault ) so just follow this path-
go to cybermodeler.com click on Subject&Color reference - from there click color paints - find US Standard colors - from there click Army/Navy pre/post 1943- choose color/hobby paint table
Hope this helps -Richard

The IPMS Stockholm colour charts can help you. If the colours you want aren't there, try The Ultimate Model Paint Conversion Chart.

Richard, and Jesse, thanks for the help. I had the IPMS Stockholm but did not find USN colors in Tamiya acrylic.
Again Thanks
Bob

Bob,
I'm mostly a Tamiya paint guy, so I have a lot of mixes that I've found and tested over the years.
FS35189: 3 parts XF-18 MEDIUM BLUE XF2 to 1 part XF-2 FLAT WHITE
FS36440/ ANA 620: 2 parts XF19 SKY GREY to 1 part XF2 FLAT WHITE
These colors are applied over a neutral gray primer coat. If you're black basing, then you will need to lighten them up a tad.

Bob,
Glad I could help a fellow Tamiya Paint guy. I also use Tamiya Yellow Cap rather then the old standby of their X-20A, as it breaks down the color pigments much finer then Iso base thinners.
For a thinner ratio its 2:3 or even 2:4 for really dark colors with light mist coats.

jessica that ipms chart is not complete. there is almost no model master colors. not even the rlm colors.
