Trumpeter released a 1/48 C-47 a number of years ago that is still available. One thing Monogram got right that Trumpeter didn't were the overlapping fuselage panels, Trumpeter uses recessed panel lines, let's hope Hobby Boss gets this feature right too.

I'll follow this story with interest as i've had a hankering to make a nice big Dakota. I believe the Trumpeter kit despite it's faults has a lot of good interior detail. If Hobbyboss come up with a shape-accurate kit and address the panel lines/rivet problems of their competitors I'll surely consider this !

Didn't it (Trumpeter) also have a rudder problem too?

Yes, I've read that it looks like a riveted metal rudder as opposed to the correct fabric covered look.

and trumpeter used the engine nacelles of the Russian built (and engined) models the Li-2 I believe. These are flatsided. The nose seems wonky too. Will this be a new mould?

Judging from this rather tiny CAD illustration I get the feeling that this is the rather inaccurate Trumpeter offering re-released under new disguise
I hope I am wrong!!
(The too shallow side cockpit windshield pane and roof hatch - and the maybe the too low main wheel struts - are all there.... I´m afraid....)

I just had a look at the hobbyboss site and unless i'm mistaken the c-47 is 1/72 only
