As the Tamiya Mustang build comes to an end and my side project of a 1:48th Tamiya Razorback approaches the markings stage I started to look around the visible parts of the stash looking at what to make a start on next.

I've had the idea of doing matching Razorback and Bubbletop builds in different scales for a long time now, but the only one I'd actually completed was in 1:48th, where I'd done Fred Christensens "Rozzie Geth" and "Rozzie Geth II/Missfire"

So, the natural companion for my 1:32 Hasegawa Bubbletop finished as Don Smiths "Ole Cock 3" is to break open one of my Trumpeter Razorbacks and do Smiths earlier Razorback "Ole Cock". Especially as decals for the noseart are now available.

Opening the box I found a few bits and pieces I'd forgotten I'd bought to go with it, namely a set of Edward canopy masks,Masters excellent brass .50 cal cooling jackets, and a set of resin wheels that I have no idea of the manufacturer or where I bought them from.

The vast majority of the markings will be painted on, and I'll be using the crew data panel and cockerel noseart which came as part of the set of decals with the recent 56th FG book published by AJ Press/Hussar

Cheers Reg 😊
For some reason there's no edit option on my first post so here are the photos again after Photobucket has committed business suicide.

A very strange decision on their part. Conspiracy theory would say that so many people have invested so much time in setting up their Photobucket account and using the links that they will just pay up now.
Reality would say that there will be hundreds of threads with no images and a lot less traffic at Photobucket.

Best of luck with the build mate, looking forward to seeing how this comes together!

Cheers, D

So... just to prove I do actually do some modelling from time to time....

Despite the kit consisting of the whole turbocharger system, I left it out because A: You can't see any of it and B: Structurally,it doesn't need to be there anyway. I just added the fire wall which has a couple of major contact points for the engine and the front spar for the wing.

And the fusalage sides dry fitted together ready for glue.

Coming along very well so far Nigel . Never built a trump kit before so I'm interested on see how this comes together . Heard nothing but bad vibes on their kits . I do have two in the stash . Their P-51B and a 109 F-4 . Both are very well detail , but their choices on the details are a head scratcher . Looking forward on the next up ...

Nigel, nice work thus far on the T-bolt. How is the fit with the kit?

Thanks all.
Fuselage is now glued and I’m working on the wings.
The fit on the internals wasn’t the best but would have been unseen anyway.
Fuselage was a lovely fit and the cowling slides into place really well.
Dry fit of the wings is very promising.

Hi Nige

Lovely work as always! That glimpse of the office looks very neat indeed!

This build reminds me that "one of these days" I really must dig out Hasegawa's big bubble-top. I can't remember when I last built a Jug!

All the best

Yeah do it Rowan, it’s about time.
Finished cleaning the seams up on the fuselage and working on the wings and empennage.
Dry fitting as I go and I’m really pleased with how it’s looking.
I’m glad I picked 2 of these kits up a few years back as 1:32 really suits the bulk of the P-47 and also my deteriorating eyesight!

A clue as to the identity this will carry.

Very nice work Nigel, glad the fit is good thus far. I am currently building Trumpeter's F4F-4 Wildcat and I hope the fit is good as well. The Jug is imposing in 1/32 scale!

Looking good mate, great to see progress and also very happy to hear that the Trumpy kit has no major fit issues.

Is this a practice run for a crack at the 1/24 Razorback?

Cheers, D

Practice run for the 1:24th razorback Reg?
Nah,, I don't need one,I've already built a 1:24th Jug,,unlike someone I could mention lol.

Ok progress on the Trumpy Jug.
Wings and empennage together and the beast is primed.
The fit of everything was very good. I haven't pushed the cowling all the way on as it is a swine to get off and I want to paint the cowling band and apply the noseart decal with the cowling separate from the airframe.

A couple of things to look out for when assembling the gun bays and ammo trays if you're intending to have them closed up.
The lids don't sit flush with the wing, so you'll have to add a spacer of plasticard. Takes 10 minutes.
I'm using brass .50 cal Aftermarket barrels which look great and are a direct replacement for the kit parts.
BUT,, be aware that they have a slight collar on them and will only go through the barrel cover/leading edge part from the gunbay side.
Your choice here is to fit them in the order of the kit instructions and paint the barrel sleeves at the end of the build or to leave the gun cover/leading edge cover loose while you paint and weather the aircraft and secure them at the end of the build which is what I intend to do.

I use a plastic primer in a rattle can from an auto factors in the UK called Halfords.
Dunno what your equivalent is down under 😊

Always a major event in a build to see her wearing a coat of primer.

Nigel,
I'm not a big fan of pre-shading as mostly everyone uses Black, but the Neutral Gray bottom really looks rather good with the dark Gray pre-shading. See, you can actually teach a very old dog a new trick every once in a while.
