Gents,
Need you guy's help on this one.
A friend's son wants a F-16,I am an armour guy(sorry!),picked up a 1/48 Hasegawa F-16A(the box says:stock 09962)in a local hobbyshop over last weekend.
What kinda cockpit upgrade should I get? Is there anything else that I should look into?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

Hi,
First check what's in the box, quality of the decals, moulding of the seat.
If you really want to upgrade, get a resin seat.
I would also consider a masking set for the canopy .
Good Luck !

Well there are several aftermarket brands that cover interior and exterior parts.
Most of them cover a specific kit others can be used on several versions.
Here you have the exhaust set, for Hasegawa F-16 A and B versions:

and the seat
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AIRE4141
a cockpit set for the A version,
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AIRE4411
CMK has 2 sets, one with weapons and radar avionics:
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/CMK4116
and a cockpit for the A version:
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/CMK4117
Pavla has seats too:
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/PAVS48006
Masks for canopy:

PE sets, individual,
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/EDFE276
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ED48530
or a complete set(interior and exterior upgrades) with Masks included too,
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/EBIG4853
other upgrades are available too from several brands covering, pitot tubes, landing gear, wheels,...
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/RS48-0023

https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/QB48002

Hope this helps.

If you really don't want to spend that much, you can make a pretty acceptable model right out of the box. There's nothing terribly inaccurate with the basic plastic, as long as you stick to the version in the box.

You should be able to handle the canopy masking yourself, the F-16 is a big fairly easy canopy to mask on your own.

You need to carefully sand and polish it off. Use fine grit sandpaper to sand it down to the level of the surrounding plastic, then use a polishing stick (triple-grit or equivalent) to polish the plastic back to its original sparkling clarity. Finish with a dip in Future floor polish.
