Hi all I just finished work on a 1/32 scale Trumpeter Bf109 E-4. painted to (mostly) resemble one of Adolf Galland's aircraft in late September through early October 1940, towards the end of the Battle of Britain. I took a bit of "artist's license" showing the Mickey Mouse on the aircraft - it was not on the real thing during the time frame represented. However, my 2 year, 9 month old foster daughter really wanted her dad to put Mickey on the plane after seeing it on the decal sheet; so on it went!

Trumpeter's interpretation of the venerable 109 is ok; not as good as Cyber Hobby's 109 but there was nothing with the kit that turned me off towards it. I think the landing gear builds a little too wide, but other than that it is fine. I built the kit oob with the exception of adding HGW fabric seatbelt, which I almost always use in my 1/32 scale builds now. I decided not to weather the aircraft too much as it was one of the mounts of one of the leading aces of the Luftwaffe at the time, and the Geschwaderkommodore to boot, so I figured it would be well maintained.

The figure is a Doug's Original casting based on a well known photo of Galland exiting his 109 after a sortie. I painted it with a combination of Tamiya acrylics and artist's oils. The cigar is a tiny piece of stretched sprue painted to look like a stoogie. The base resembles the grass airfield JG26 flew out off during the battle.

I hope everyone enjoys the next few posts of photos.

Ernest,
Herr Galland himself would be pleased. I ask quite impressed with the crispness of your details. Your canopy masking it's beautifully exact.

Hi Gaz, thank you for the kind words. I wish I had blown the small dust particles off the canopy before I took the photos.

Such a classic! I'll have to do one in 1/72 myself some time ! Beautifully done and that figure really adds something extra!
