Good for you Chris , it really is a nice kit , a few things I not overly impressed by , but that is me I had very high expectations .
Yes , the seat I feel is a week point for the more advance models , but for the younger and less skilled it is an excellent valve for ones budject .

Progress continues with the panel lines and rivets are filled . I used Tamiya white putty for this . One has to work fast with this putty , it dries really fast . It does sand fast as well , bits it plastic good .
Careful test fitting is needed and care must be taking when sanding or even drilling the plastic . It is super soft !
I started to rivet the landing flaps ( there are none ) and I ended up going right through the plastic ruining the part . So digging into the spare parts out came a set of Ultracast flaps . They are short by 1.5 mm . This will not be notice once they are painted up and installed . Some mods to flaps are need , but they will work . I'm surprised that Eduard hasn't come up with a replacement set .
There are a few things to note here on the build so far . There are gaps on the chin breathers , very front of the wing root and under the nose as well . No sanding on these parts except for the removal points . The tail section is another area which careful attention needs to be on getting everything lined up . The tail planes wing root area the rivets fall into the panel line and aren't complete as well for the fin as well . I have tested fitted the front wind screen and it is a perfect fit ! Just no pics yet . I still have a few areas that I need to touch up , but I'm getting close to the priming stage .

I found out the same thing about the Airfix plastic working on the Hurricane Mk 1, it's super soft. Just a little to soft, as it's so easy to dig into it deeper then intended. It does sand extremely well, which I guess you can call the other side of the coin.
Your wings really do look good with all the appropriate panel lines and rivets filled in. As for the lower chin step, cleaning it up will surely remove those 3 rivets. Naturally it's the circle type requiring the UMM_USA punch set that I don't have. Looking forward to seeing how you deal with it.

Thanks Joel , sorry for the late reply back I have been very ill over the past week and really haven't done much of anything . Finally broke the fever this weekend and starting to feel better . Should be back in front of the bench soon with some more progress .
I have never work with plastic this soft before so it did take a bit to get used to it . You are right on the plus side of the coin , it is nice working with plastic that sands easily . I don't have that tool either but I do have an idea on how I can do this . Once I'm back up to par I will have some more progress to post .

Hi Terri, I am glad to hear you are on the mend. Your progress looks very good thus far. I am not too impressed with the Tamiya putty for the reason you point out. I think it drys too fast making it hard to spread evenly.

Glad that you're on the mend. Sure hope you didn't have that nasty flu.
I gave up on Squadron Green/White stuff years ago. Always wanted to try the Tamiya putty as well as their 3 stage polishing creams, but never got around to it. When I was ready, Sprue Brothers were always out of stock, and in stock when I wasn't that interested. It's flipped back and forth that way for quite some time.
Anyway, sorry for the digression, but these days I've been using Bondo #3 Glazing compound. It' dries quickly but not super fast. Dries hard as a rock, sands and feathers out so you just can't tell it's there, and for the most part it's not porous. If it's good enough for real car body work, it can handle anything we throw at it.

Hi Guys , took a little long on getting well . I had a really nasty viral lung infection , you could say it knocked the wind out of me .
I have made progress with the build and have the smaller bits done which are really for weathering and final assembly . Natural metal is done with the rest of the colour scheme and has been clear coated and is ready for decals which I will be starting today .

Feels good to be back in front of the bench . Made some progress and got the basic scheme decals on . The checkers didn't give me all that much troubles . The upper cowling checker decal doesn't fit to the curves . This decal set is designed for the Tamiya kit . The Airfix cowl has a flat top which is more correct . I will let this dry over night and check them tomorrow and see if more super sol is needed .

your builds always have a nice flow to them, and the end results are just consistently double thumbs up. Plus your style and level is the same if not better then mine, so I can learn from you knowing that I have a pretty good chance of succeeding.
I've followed way to many super builds over the years on sites like LSP that are at a skill level that I know if I emulated would result in a complete disaster. Modeling is an acquired skill to a point, then something else kicks in, in how this aliens can see parts and corrections, and scratch building at a level that's far beyond guys like me. that's what makes National IPMS winners so special.

Thanks Richard . I really wasn't sure if the decals would work on the nose . Took some care full cutting and folding over a few sections . I'm glad that it work . I have " buzzin cuzzin " scheme ( same unit ) for the other Aixfix mustang in the stash .

Progress continues with the decaling with finishing off the stencils data . I didn't take pic's of this for they really don't show well in photos or at least my . Will have them sealed tonight and hopefully the wash and a blt of weathering . Tomorrow I should have the rest of Mustang finished .

Terry, it looks like a very nice Mustang. I especially like your cockpit and wheel pit, but the part that always impresses me most are large area decals, even more if they have complex design like those wonderful checkers. Fantastic job Terry

Looking forward to your finish set of pictures. You're flying through this build.
I just got my 2nd Academy/Accurate Miniature's P-51B as I want to build both, one with the Malcolm hood. I bought the same decal sheet a year apart, so I can actually do 8 of them, not that I plan on living long enough to accomplish that. I've passed on both Tamiya's and Airfix's P-51D as I'm waiting for the Eduard one. Hopefully it will have the option of more then one version, or a few follow up with a different tail section. And yeah, I've bought sheets for both of them as well.
Gotta start building the iconic aircraft of WWII sooner then later, as I'm starting to run out of time. I also will be attempting to build one race car from years past every 3rd build. That still remains to be seen if I can duplicate the quality gloss paint finish I want.

Thank you Pedro for the kind comment . This time they went a lot smoother then my last mustang build .
Joel , I'm waiting for the Eduard release as well . I keeps getting delayed and not until next year now if I heard correct . I still have enough to hold me until then .
I'm calling this one done ! Over all it was an enjoyable build and I found I got my moneys worth . there are a few things that were a let down . On the tail having the rivet detail run into the panel line . Wheels didn't fit overly well to the landing gear legs and had to do some sanding nad even then I stop or detail would be lost . On the right side of the fuselage the jack here hole and panel detail is totally missed , It is on the left side though . There is also an excess panel missing on the right side as well on the lower tail section for control mat panel .

Another 'Stang in the books. Came out looking spectacular. One thing I did notice which I've also seen on a lot of my builds as well, is the when the Stars & Bars insignia is photographed in direct light, the blue tends to get washed out, and I know that on the decal sheet they're perfectly colored.
Damn! Another year for the Eduard kit to be released. Will have to get at least one Airfix kit now for sure.
