Having watch a review on the kit, I thought great you can pose it in so many ways. Them I noticed that you have to cut and join the front gear to make it shorter. Would it have been better just to give you 2 front gears one extended and one not.

Having just bought this kit, I can confirm you do sort of get two front legs.
The front leg is built up of two parts, with the top part with the cylinder either compressed or fully extended depending how you want the model too sit.
The only cut is if you want the Phantom to sit as in taxiing or just stationary you need to cut the extended oleo off, then fit the shorter compressed cylinder part.

Seems like that could be a weak point unless done properly and reinforced with a brass or steel pin. Why not make it easier for the average modeller and give both? Even Matchbox gave you both options.

I presume SAC will be releasing White metal legs in the near future

Oh yeah the AM companies will soon have a replacement for sale.
Just odd that Airfix decided to do it that way. Sure it's just a minor issue though and it's not putting me off one.
