Hi All
A question.
On a F4 Corsair what colour were the sides of the flaps?
these would be be visible when dropped.
Were they left in Zinc Cromate or painted to match the upper or undersides.
TIA
Chris

I would paint them the underside colour.
If you google "F4-U Corsair landing flaps" you get quite a few pics.

Unfortunately, that's not an easy question to answer. Most of my research material are almost all B&W pictures. the color ones are mostly restorations, so one has to be real careful as to the accuracy of the rebuild paint scheme details.
Early F4 through a good part of the -1A run still used Salmon as a primer, later -1As were primed with YZC. All the wing spars including the spars exposed for the folding wings were painted in a primer color, not the lower fuselage color. By the introduction of the 1Ds and the glossy Sea Blue scheme the it may have changed once again.
So depending on what version your building, Salmon or YZC are a safe choice.
