Here's the basic color scheme I am using, I am purchasing Starfighter decals for it. It's going to be either side number 203 or 217.---John

I have rockets from my Tamiya kit which are much better and correct stubs. I marked the depth on the Hobbyboss part, cut the pylon off and glued it in the wing slot. When they are all in I will sand and fill if necessary.---John

Interesting to see how it turns out. One of theirs I always wanted to pick up.
Built quite a few of them when they first came out. The Wildcat, a couple of Bf109s, Hellcat, Mig 3, Hurricane and Sabre. Very quick and easy to assemble. They do lack detail in the cockpit (at 1/72 who can tell?) but I think they are great for getting new blood into the hobby. Not to mention a cheap and quick way to show off multiple colour and marking schemes.

I added the wings. They needed a little super glue filler on the roots and bottom, very little. I cut off and saved the wing pitot tube and fuselage bottom antenna.---John

Nice work! Always been a fan of the Corsair - still remember watching Blacksheep Squadron as a kid, of course almost purely to watch those Corsairs.

John,
Looking good. I'm a big Corsair fan as well, so I'll be following your build to its conclusion. So far the build looks quite good. Looking forward to seeing how it looks with it's paint on.

From the limited amount of research I've done on post WWII Corsairs, there was quite a number of color changes to wheel wells, inside the cowling, and in the cockpit about the bottom of the IP. Even the landing gear had a few color changes due to paint shortages.

Joel

Joel, long time no see. You still visit ARC? I believe it was you that gave me the heads up about this site. Yes there were a lot of color changes, 3 tone schemes, 2 tone schemes, overall dark blue. Then there were interior green cockpits, dark green cockpits, and gray, interior green and even salmon wheel wells. Check out my 1/72 Tamiya F4U-1 birdcage Corsair with salmon wheel wells on my photos on this site.---John

Hi John
Aeroscale is my number 1 site, and ARC my #2 site. That's all the online time I to spare for modeling sites.

Next will be a Korean War Panther to go with this Corsair. I am going to do Lt Royce Williams F9F-5 of VF-781, he shot down 4 Russian Mig-15s but was never credited, the Navy didn't want to cause WWIII. The Russians admitted in the 90s that Williams had indeed downed 4 Russian Mig 15s. This is his unit but this plane, number 109,was flown by a Canadian exchange pilot, Joseph J MacBrien from the RCN.---John
