Hi all,
has anyone got any references for the Bv 155 cockpit tucked away somewhere?
My main question concerns the head armour plate....was it braced by tubular supports or was it "free-standing" attached at the base of the plate?

Thanks
Cheers
Peter

The entire fuselage area was fabricated from welded steel plate, for the very high altitude pressurization. The head armor was probably attached rigidly to this. The only pictures that I have are from Warplanes of the Third Reich by William Green, and you can't tell much about the cockpit from them. The basic design was for a suped-up high altitude '109, so much of the other interior should be similar to a '109 J or K

Thanks again.

Hi Peter

Here's a wartime pic of the Bv155 cockpit.

From pictures of the preserved example at Silver Hill, it looks like the pressure cabin was a self-contained unit, with a second skin forming the exterior of the aircraft. The fuselage seems to be partially built around a tubular framework - this is visible in the turbosupercharger compartment.

As regards the head armour, in these pics of the aircraft after capture, it looks like there's an internal plexiglass panel supported by diagonal braces.

Hope this helps

Rowan
