Hi girls and guys. This will be my next build. I choose the model because I can display it showing off the engine. The boxart,

No Revell flighty box but a sturdy one inside. The instructions are black and white on paper,

Upon opening the box you will see this, the top sprue lying unprotected on the bag. This is because the bag is to small, saving on the wrong end .

Nice details and ok decals.

I ordered some stuff for this build. An Eduard zoom set, and Montex decals and masks. I liked the blue grey sheme together with the red and lightening, so my first aftermarket decal set will be used! I will build the 02 version. Also I ordered Mig paints for a first time, curious if I like them more then Vallejo. Lastly Mr Solvent putty... After all those brands I tried this is such lovely stuff!!!

Since I waited on my delivery I started with the motor block. Well those rods dont fit at all, also reference pics showed that those rods are one size, so I replaced them with styrene rods. I kept the cut of pieces and used the thinner parts as spark plugs for the wiring, I drilled them out a bit as seen on the picture but it seemed I needed to drill them out completely to make I was able to bent the wire along the block.

So then it seemed the back of the block is very visible and just a disc. I tried to recreate the back of the engine as realistic as possible but the seizes dont natch and my skill lacks to recreate some of the finer details. I added wiring from stretched sprue and some other pieces. Not super realistic but I think more interesting to look at then before.

I also build the interior frame work. A bit of hassle to clean it up but it looks nice.

So far so good? Thx for watching, comments are welcome.

Greetings Lars

That’s a very good start Lars.
Wonder if the plastic of that kit is alike their 109 kits? I found it quite pleasing to work, reacts very well to minimal amounts of liquid glue, bonding fast and seamless. Anyway, gonna follow your build with interest. Good luck!

Thx Pedro. I think yes, the plastic is very nice to work with. Also very easy to rework scratches and glue stains. I was quiete surprised with that.
Thx

So far so good, Lars!

I will be following this thread because lately I have developed a "strange" attraction for Soviet aircraft...

The back of the engine will look just fine under paint - nothing to worry! And it was a valiant effort, btw!

So: good start and I wish you good luck with the build!

Cheers!

Hi
Just a small update. Put the basic paint on the interior.
Next week will be very busy so I hope for some progress with detail painting, pe applying and weathering in the weekend.

So guys, after 1,5 months!!!! Finally some progress. I think I dreaded the PE :/. Rightly so it seems because I launched one of the pedal straps leaving it to the carpet monster :/. Some of those pieces are impossible. Like piece you have to bend round and the fold together. However managed that can sent me a pm...
I repainted some of the PE pieces for more depth or just because they were silver like the wheels and lines. Having taken most of this hurdle I hope on a what quicker progress now .

Greetings TC

Nice to see the sinkmark now

Well the cockpit is finished. I love all the detail in the kit and the PE. Very rewarding.
Some PE is very fiddly, like the blue wiring. How Eduard thinks anyone can apply that??? I did my best and though not perfect, I am satisfied.

Hi guys and girls,
Its lovely weather for vacation and moddeling. So here is a bit of progress...
Because of the lack of surface details I used extensive preshading. It didnt worked out as planned, mainly due to using a new medium, Mig transperantor, wanting to spray camo by hand and using a new airbrush and airbrush technique. Way to much at once.

I guess I will try to save this using alot of aftershading weathering. Lets see if the oilbrushers can do some magic.

Also painted the details on the engine.

Everything is in lacquer so I hope for some more progress at the end of the week and maybe a finished model by the end of my vacation.

So I added the decals and gloss... Tommorow I can start the weathering. Its starts to look like plane .

Lars,
Sorry that I missed your build blog. I just read through it, and I'm quite impressed with the build right through decaling, which looks rather complicated. The Pit came out really nice even with the less then realistic Eduard flat PE. Really nice detailing of that rather plain engine. A huge improvement.

Looking forward to seeing how you deal with the weathering.

Thx Joel, in real live the blue pe hose is accaptable, on the pic it looks terrible. I really consider using the plastic parts like wheels next time over PE. Its kind of weird that some parts are almost impossible to form or have just 1 side painted or are not painted at all!
