Just had a kind of interesting idea. OK, I think it's interesting, anyway. How about a squadron history campaign? We could turn it into a sort of series with different squadrons from different countries. I'm proposing we start with the famous U.S. Navy squadron the Jolly Rogers. Given the Navy's habit of changing squadron designations and different squadrons adopting disestablished unit's names, we have several to choose from:
VF-17 1943-46
VF-5B 1946-48
VF-61 1948-59
VF-84 1959-95
VF/VFA-103 1995-present
Lots of aircraft options as well:
F4U
F6F
F8F
F9F
FJ-3
F3H
F-8
F-4
F-14
F/A-18
And I may have missed some. What do you all think? Any interest?

You did miss some:
1. 90th Bomb Group "Jolly Rogers" in the Pacific in WWII flying B-24s
2. Nungessor's Nieuport and SPAD WWI
3. The Imperial Russian Air Service 1st Combat Air Group and 19th BAG (Squadron) from WWI flying Nieuports and Morane Salnier aircraft.
There are probably countless others.

Russ,
Maybe I wasn't very clear. The lists I have in my first post are just possible Jolly Roger models. Other squadrons we might go for later could be endless:
94th Fighter Squadron USAS/USAAC/USAAF/USAF
74 Sqn RFC/RAF
101 Sqn IAF
Etc. and so forth.
I'm just suggesting we start with the Jolly Rogers for this first campaign.

Michael,
So you are looking for the specific Navy "Jolly Rogers" Squadrons and not specifically aircraft that might have sported the "Jolly Roger"? I'd think that would be a lot more interesting!!?? Of course my opinion doesn't really count, since I don't do campaigns, but I do like to "lurk". This sounds interesting.

Sounds interesting. Quick check and I have two kits with Jolly Rogers decals (VF-84), so would join.

Wow, I actually have 3 candidates, and F4U, F3H and a F9F-8. I've built several Corsairs lately, might try the Demon or the Cougar for this one.

Lately I got very interested in the old 1/72 Monogram kit of the F-4J, now reboxed by Revell, BECAUSE it has the nice Jolly Rogers decals
I think I have a good reason now to buy it....

Kinda quiet here the last couple of days. Thought I'd give this one a bump and see if we can scare up some more interest.

The VF-84/VF-103 is my favorite squadron since I saw 'The last Countdown' as a kid. So I'm in. Maybe with a Super Hornet from Hasegawa.

Well, we're stuck on six. This one may be a non-starter, I'm afraid. Guess I could always do my Academy F-4J Jolly Roger for the 3rd Generation campaign, but I did kind of have a Jones for the Tamiya 1/48 F-14.

i would say give some time and come back to it michael. between it being summer and also some may be reluctant because of other campaign commitments. i for one am half way through my raf 100 build and have not even started my mto build yet so even though i would join this one it would be a while before i could get started anyway. maybe others are on the fence because of the similar issues.

You're quite right Joe, sometimes I give up too quickly. I'll leave this one up for a while and see if we get more interest. I'd still love to have this campaign go live!

Any reason is a good reason to build that kit! I think it's my favorite Tamiya 1/32 set.
That's 9. Who'll be lucky 10?
