i decided to make this a separate post as i was wondering if any one recognises the story and what book it came out of.

this is a quote from another forum for professional pilots. i tried to join it so i could try to ask the original poster of the comment to tell me what book he is talking about... here is the quote, it's about german airman ghosts that were in the UK:

I have a book (on loan to a friend at the moment), which records the story of a Heinkel 111 crew who were shot down & perished on Anglesey during the War of the Austrian House Painter. This erudite tome suggests that a chap in WW2 Luftwaffe uniform wandered up to a German Tonka crew at an Open Day airshow at Valley in the late 80's, and had a bizarre conversation with the Deutsche crew, in somewhat dated German language. He was stunned & disbelieving by the performance data of the Tornado & disputed their Staffel details. The Luftwaffe crew were disturbed enough to report the incident, & were shown photographs of the deceased He111 crew. They positively identified one of them as the chap they had encountered.

The book also recounts reported ghostly sightings by guards on the Menai Bridges, subsequent to the He111 shootdown, of apparitions attempting to cross to the mainland, but being unable to do so.

Must desist now; hairs on the back of my neck are up: I have spirits in the house. Fortunately, they are imprisoned in a bottle of Auchentoshan Single Malt. I now intend to open it & offer single combat...........

any and all help welcome trying to identify the book mentioned

This sort of thing is not uncommon in Celtic countries, and Ynys Mon (Anglesey) is special. It is the place where the Romans effectively ended the Druids as an influence, having been the centre of Druidism in Britain. The site of the massacre of the Druids is thought to be under RAF Valley, the siting of which is believed by some to be a deliberate desecration by the Westminster Government.

Things I have seen lead my sanity to be questioned, or worse, my integrity (I would rather be thought a madman than a liar) in my place of exile (England) whereas in Wales they were accepted as things which do, indeed, happen. So this story comes as no surprise.

As for the Menai; it is an old belief that spirits cannot cross running water, but that is usually taken to mean streams and rivers; perhaps all water is a barrier, or the Menai has enough flow?
