Hi all. I suppose I'm opening up yet another can of worms relating to 'colour schemes' but as the industry expands and new paints arrive I thought I'd open this one again. I want to build the titled F4u-1d but have got bogged down with a lot of data on what the overall colour should be. Apart from the spray can( which I do not want to use) there must be a single pot colour out there that would suffice for this a/c. Preferably acrylic, but not the b all to end all if selection limited. So sit back, relax, grab a beer and see if you can make my day.

Generally, F4U-1Ds were painted an overall Glossy Sea Blue. the exact color was ANA 623 which translates to FS 15042.

Most paint companies make that exact color paint, with the exception of Tamiya but their glossy Sea Blue comes very close. Just check your preferred paint company's paint list.

For Acrylics I prefer Mig Ammo who makes that color. My choice of paints these days are Mr. Color Lacquers, who also has it.

assuming the spray-can you don't want to use is Tamiya's AS8 as per their instructions, the nearest equivalent in Tamiya Acrylics is Tamiya XF17 Sea Blue but a closer match is arguably Gunze Acrylics H54, Semi-Gloss Navy Blue, or C14 Semi-Gloss Navy Blue in their lacquer range.
