Tamiya has announced that they will be releasing their new tool 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.1 on or around December 22nd

Thanks for the news. This should be a Christmas hit. The wing roots definitely look better than on the old kit, and it's great to see an early style windscreen. But the box-top artwork is weird somehow (which is really unusual for Tamiya). It almost reminds me of the old "one shilling" war comic illustrations from when I was a kid - i.e. it's obviously a pair of Spitfires - just not very well drawn ones...

I am looking forward to this getting and building this kit. I heard Tamiya took a lot of flak for the shape issues on their previous early Spitfire and I would bet this one will eliminate those shortfalls. If the engineering and fit is anything like their KI-61 it will a real winner.
