Hi. I'm planning on building a ww11 Pacific Ocean SBD(1/48th scale) in the two tone scheme and would be greatful for some input on the colour of the upper surfaces. I normally use gunze sangyo or tamiya acrylic paints so mixing formulas would be of great help.

Les,
I've seen the color matched to FS35189 which seems pretty close to me. At least one online Tamiya paint mix chart that I think has been floating around for years shows a mix of 3 parts XF-18 Medium Blue to 1 part XF-2 White, which I think is effective (if I remember correctly from the last time I did it, I may have added a little black back in). Your mileage may vary.
I don't have easy access to Gunze so not so sure about it.
Given the number of kits of early USN WWII aircraft out there, it's a shame Tamiya and Gunze don't do a dedicated color for it, but there you are.
Hope this helps!
Michael

Hi. Thanks for that but I have been there and its a quagmire. I was hoping for a modeler that had built this aircraft and had an accurate paint formula that he/she used. Even a nod that the Academy SBD-2 paint instruction colors are correct.
