Well done, Franck, congrats and interesting scheme!

This one is done! I was surprised that once I closed up the fuselage, the kit fell together in about three hours. I did try a new thing with spatted wheels, which was to paint the wheels post underside painting. This didn't work as smoothly as I'd hoped, so won't be doing that again!

So following all the times spent putting on the Airscale instrument decals, they really are difficult to see, unless you're really trying to see them.



Painting was pretty straight forward, undersides were Tamiya XF-3 Flat yellow.



The uppers were done with Tamiya XF-81 Dark Green (RAF), and Mr. Color 22, Dark Earth, all paints were diluted with Mr. Leveler thinner 1:4. I did free hand the Scheme A, temperate, I think it did ok, though for my AVG P-40, I'll be mixing different colors, as these seem a bit bright to my eye. Then again it was a trainer, kept in near pristine condition.











I used the kit decals, which appear to be made by Eduard, and they performed flawlessly. I did the markings for T9752 of No. 312 Squadron (Czechoslovak) RAF, Martlesham Heath, 1941.

I also discovered that the square (red on port wing, white on starboard wing) were actually representative of the test strips used early in the war to detect if chemical weapons were being used. A real, and understandable concern at the time. A neat little fun fact, and pretty cool that Flashback included it in the decals.

This was a really fun build, and it's been a while since doing a short run kit. I can recommend it to any modeler with a few kits under their belt. Great fits, nice PE, and great decals. I found mine on eBay for 20 USD delivered about 2 years ago. So, if you can find it, don't pass it up!!

Well, there's 9 days left on the official clock. Seeing that seems to be the year of extensions, I'll ask if you all would benefit from one. Chime in, if so.

Nice work! I think short run kits of rare subject matter are pretty keen.

I personally think the camo colors look ideal, but it is entirely possible I'm not seeing them on my monitor the way you are seeing them at home. Also keep in mind that P-40 colors are generally American equivalent colors, so it is 100% correct for them to be different shades than on a british-built machine.

As for an extension, I'm hoping to have my FT-6 ready for paint by this weekend, but of course it being a holiday weekend, i'll be lucky to get much painting done before monday evening. I MIGHT be able to pull off the pakistani 2-tone grey camo scheme I was intending to do by June 1st, but a little extra time would probably result in a less-rushed job of it. Of course I could just go with the all-white chinese scheme and be done by the current deadline...

Progress update.

Well, seeing that you've mentioned it and due to being plagued by domestic distractions lately, work at the modelling workbench on my Vampire has been sadly stuck at the painting prep stage. The build was coming along quite nicely prior to all the interruptions and as the old adage implies "haste can make waste" so perhaps a modest extension (15-30 days?) would indeed be greatly appreciated.

I AM making progress, just not enough.


A little extra time would be nice.

My progress over the last few days - wings, elevators, and control surfaces on. the ailerons were a couple mm thicker than the wings, so a significant amount of thinning of the former was required. Same with the rudder.



Here is a closeup of the cockpit w/o seats, which is not particularly amazing, but I intend to have closed canopies on this one so didn't feel like investing in upgrades for this area:



now it is time to get some weight in the conveniently located forward hatch Trumpeter decided to add for us and get the interior of the intake trunk smoothed out (think i'll be using epoxy putty for that). After that i need to install the wing pylons, ejection seats, instrument panel covers, and fit the canopies before priming.

Everyone here has done such a great job on their buijlds. I have enjoyed myself, but will need to bow out due to life getting in the way again.

Thank you very much John! A most gracious and appreciated decision/favour/ruling. Been working on cleaning up a few pesky seams with the hope of 'maybe' finishing by the original deadline but it was plainly evident that that would have been a wishful dream.

Thanks for the extension! I'm still waiting on my masks to arrive they are unfortunately the vinyl montex masks as they were the only option I could find at the time for the Monogram/Revell 1/48 T-6 Texan.

I've mostly completed the paint work and started decaling it'll make painting the canopy a lot more difficult but I wasn't going to wait around for the masks. So here's where I'm at for now and I hope to have her completed as soon as possible.

I have no expectations of finishing this kit by the first, but I thought I would get a build log going at least. I think I bought a kit like this from Sears when I was a kid.

I tried several times to add a full size photo to this post with no success.

Bill, I have the same kit, also unassembled. Perhaps a build along blog. Anybody else have a Hotspur?

I'm optimistic! However, if you all can't finish, don't forget that you get them done in the Hangar Queen campaign, that's always going on!

P.S. - As for my Vampire, got a number of problem areas filled, cleaned up and trial painted to see how they look. Still a few more parts to add and final painting and decals. Keeping fingers and toes crossed. :-D
